From Marjorie Clark, chair of the Seventh District Democratic Committee, comes the following e-mail and press release:

The 7th District Committee, charged with the task of recruiting and nominating a candidate following the Convention decision of "None of Those Prefiled," has made its selection.

Numerous potential candidates were contacted.  While some declined, the Committee ultimately interviewed, met with, and thoroughly discussed those who were willing to run against Eric Cantor.  7th District Democrats would have been proud of any one of the final candidates.  Each person brought significant strengths to the process, had support among committee members, and we hope that they will all be involved in the campaign.

Thank you for participating in the process and for helping us achieve a good resolution to the outcome of the Convention.

This is the press release that was issued today.  Please pass this information on to those who do not have e-mail.

Jim Nachman, Richmond Attorney and Longtime Democratic Activist, To Oppose Eric Cantor in the Seventh Congressional District

Richmond +óGé¼GÇ£ Marjorie Clark, chair of the Seventh District Democratic Committee, today announced that Mr. James Nachman, a Richmond attorney with Nachman and Squires, will oppose Eric Cantor this fall. Mr. Nachman was nominated last night at a Seventh District Democratic meeting.  Ms. Clark added, "I am pleased that someone of Jim's caliber and experience has stepped forward to take on the incumbent. Jim has long been involved in the community, both in Democratic politics and in Richmond area activities. He has proven his leadership and skills and was on the teams that defeated Ollie North and that elected former delegate Shirley Cooper and State Senator Elmo Cross. Jim has been involved since his youth when he volunteered for the Hubert Humphrey presidential campaign."

Mr. Nachman said of his recent decision, "The situation in Washington is too grave to allow the incumbent to go unchallenged. He has supported and sanctioned the failed, corrupt policies of the present administration. Young Americans are dying every day in Iraq and we deserve to know why. The President and his supporters, like Eric Cantor, have not been honest with Americans, and that is the least we deserve. We need leaders who will stand up for what is right, not just blindly follow political party dogma.

"I promise to make independent decisions that put my constituents first. I will work to bring our troops home now, to make sure we have accessible, affordable health care, to provide a first class education for all our children and to keep our citizens safe from those who would terrorize us."

Presently chair of the Richmond City Democratic Committee, Mr. Nachman is also the Worshipful Master of Fraternal Lodge #53 Masonic Lodge.

All I can say is this:  thank God we got a serious, sane, credible candidate to face Eric Cantor (Right Wing "R").  I look forward to learning more about Mr. Nachman, and wish him well.

Seems like it... (Lowell - 6/2/2006 7:41:24 AM)
although I'd like to know more about Nachman.  I will try to find out today.

No word from the 4th or 6th, unfortunately.

Great, I'll bust my ass for Nachman too. (thaddaeus toad - 6/2/2006 4:28:26 PM)
I live in the 3rd, so I'll be bored anyway(it's great having a Statesman represent you).  Anything Nachman needs, that little puke Cantor must be relegated to the garbage heap from which he and his supporters were spawned.

Daily Kos is OBVIOUSLY down (phriendlyjaime - 6/2/2006 4:49:14 PM)
