Jim Antle over at the American Conservative has a very fine article (http://www.amconmag.com/2006/2006_06_19/feature.html) about the Virginia Senate race which focuses very prominently on Jim Webb. The title is "A New Democrat: Jim Webb+óGé¼Gäós populist Senate campaign shakes up Virginia+óGé¼Gäós political establishment" A number of the people interviewed by Jim Antle are are known to most RK readers.

I will make some additional comments about this article in due course. This is a significant article for a number of reasons.

I am really glad you posted a link to it.  Thank you.

Some asshole named Lowell Feld... (Lowell - 6/1/2006 8:31:58 PM)
is quoted in there. :)

“He can help revitalize the Democratic Party with a jolt of Andrew Jackson populism and Teddy Roosevelt reform,†says Lowell Feld, proprietor of the Virginia-based Raising Kaine site. “He can bring peopleâ€â€Reagan Democrats, cultural conservatives, Southernersâ€â€back into the Democratic fold and help rebuild the big tent.â€Â

Brilliant, eh? Ha.

Allen people should worry... (Info_Tech_Guy - 6/1/2006 10:10:31 PM)
Disenchanted Republicans may decide that Jim Webb is the sort of candidate who would make the best senator for Virginia.

Remember, the writers/editors (and readers) at AmConMag are opposed to Bush on *many* of the same issues as those on the Progressive Left. Paul Craig Roberts, the architect of the Supply Side tax legislation under Reagan writes at both AmconMag and Counterpunch. Pat Buchanan was writing about the dangers of free trade well before NAFTA. They are attacking the imperial wars and destruction of civil liberties as strongly as many on the Left.

The basis for real common cause exists. I think the question of whether we will remain a middle class society or slide into Third World despotism is the linch pin for a political realignment in this Senate race. Maybe we should be courting Republican old-line conservatives (as distinguished from corporatists and neo-conservatives) to come vote for Jim Webb in the primary? If their “hot buttons†are Iraq, failed war on terror, deteriorating military capabilities, big government, erroding civil liberties and offshore outsourcing/middle class job loss then Jim Webb should be their candidate.

now if only article had pointed out open primary (teacherken - 6/1/2006 10:23:59 PM)
so that Republican and independent Conservative who subscribe would be reminded that they could vote for Jim in the primary.

Excellent point (Info_Tech_Guy - 6/1/2006 11:07:47 PM)
Would you post this at The Modern Patriot (http://modernpatriot.blogspot.com/2006/06/jim-webbs-populism-shaking-things-up.html) so that all the Virginia conservatives and sometime Republican voters who visit will know that they can vote for Jim Webb in the primary...

That's the real conservatives, I'm referring to -- the "brown-shirts" apparently have orders to infiltrate and vote for Miller...

hey the idea isn't copyrighted (teacherken - 6/2/2006 7:09:21 AM)
so you can post it yourself

sorry, but I am on deadline on 3 different things this morning, and probably shouldn't even be looking at raisingkaine right now, but feel free to use the info yourself --- or anyone else

remind your friends of it too
