I've made up my mind!

I am new to the world of blogging, so I had to read up on a couple of them to get a sense of the Senate campaigns. I found a lot of information on Jim Webb. Couldn't find anything positive about Harris Miller, so I googled him.  Not much positive there either, so I decided to attend the Women for Miller Luncheon. There were about 150 people there; I noticed some empty chairs.  My State Senator was not there, but I saw some other elected officials, mostly from Fairfax, none from Falls Church.  I read that he had support from African American legislators, but there were only three Black women there, one of whom was a staff member, I think.  The person who introduced him, Kate Michelman, spoke longer than Miller did.  And then Miller spoke.
Miller sounds like a Republican politician, using their mantra. Miller kept saying +óGé¼+ôwhat Virginians need is+óGé¼-ª this and that...+óGé¼-¥  He paused for applause, typical politician. He also said that he is the only person in this race who thinks that Rumsfeld should be fired.  I wanted to ask him "Is that going to change things in Washington?"  But there was no opportunity for questions.  He said that he was the real Democrat, whatever that means. After about ten minutes of this, some audience members, including myself, lost interest and the applause was not as enthusiastic as in the beginning.  The speech was uninspiring and the candidate lacked charisma. What a bore!

I am voting for Webb on June 13.

Great job! (DemTilDeath - 6/1/2006 5:11:02 PM)
Glad you took the time to educate yourself.  I hope you'll share what you found with those you know who haven't taken the time yet.

I agree. Please tell everyone you know. (Lowell - 6/1/2006 5:15:45 PM)
June 13.  Jim Webb.  Goodbye George Allen.

his supporter Alice has blogged the same event (teacherken - 6/1/2006 6:34:23 PM)
and described it far differently.  But then again, the way she describes the Miller campaign and his prospects she must see an empty glass as overflowing, but with what I will not venture to guess.

Good for you, btw.

What now alice... (thegools - 6/2/2006 12:21:35 AM)
Will you keep fighting the good fight now that Miller's castle of cards begins to crumble....?

Alice I do respect you and hope I have not offended you.

Welcome to the blogosphere! (TurnVirginiaBlue - 6/1/2006 7:08:50 PM)
Blogging is fun and very informative.

Great first diary!

Tactical reasons to vote Webb (Craig - 6/2/2006 7:35:59 PM)
Even if you don't much care for one over the other, there are, I think, many rather obvious tactical reasons to back Webb over Miller.  Among them:

1. Miller is, in the words of Marc Fisher, "as charismatic as a toaster."  I know that seems silly, but as we all know, it matters.  Webb has charisma to spare, and even his critics will admit it.

2. Miller's "more Democrat than thou" primary tactic will make him EXTREMELY vulnerable to the usual battery of "crazy liberal" attacks in the general election.  Bragging about hating Reagan at the height of the 80s is a bad way to win conservative and centrist independent votes.

3. Miller is a lobbyist, in a year that makes it extremely untenable to run as one.  Allen will sieze on this with glee if Miller is nominated.
