Jim Webb to make a "major endorsement" announcement on Tuesday - UPDATED

Late this afternoon the Jim Webb campaign announced that it will be holding a press conference to announce a "Major Endorsement" in Richmond tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. at the Patrick Henry Building.

Any guesses?  (I don't know)

[UPDATE:  As Ben Tribbett predicted yesterday, it is Donald McEachin after all. According to the Webb press release, "McEachin was first elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 1996. He is a lifetime member of the NAACP, the Virginia State Bar and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association. He represents Charles City, Henrico, and Prince George Counties and the cities of Hopewell and Richmond. In 2001, he won the Democratic Nomination for Attorney General of Virginia."]

Barack Obama? (JennyE - 5/29/2006 4:10:27 PM)
Doug Wilder, Chuck Robb. Could be anyone.

Good guesses (Corey - 5/29/2006 4:13:41 PM)
I was thinking a major Virginia statewide Democrat too....Widler, Robb?

Robb's staffers already endorsed Webb (Lowell - 5/29/2006 5:46:28 PM)
and Robb has said he's not going to endorse anyone (although he appears to be very favorable towards Webb privately).

Although... (Corey - 5/29/2006 4:15:30 PM)
Another possible clue is that the Patrick Henry building is the current home of the offices of the State Delegates and Senators.

I'm really hoping its Doug Wilder (JennyE - 5/29/2006 4:24:17 PM)
That would definately seal Miller's fate.

My money's on Wilder (Craig - 5/29/2006 4:42:10 PM)
Wilder tends to hold his cards close up till the very end.  This would be very much in keeping with Wilder's past endorsements.

For me its (phriendlyjaime - 5/29/2006 8:46:24 PM)
Wilder or Bobby Scott.  Either one would seal it.

I doubt it is Scott (teacherken - 5/29/2006 8:49:57 PM)
but I have reasons I am not about to put onto an open blog for saying that.

I also would be surprised if it were Wilder -- first the venue speaks of someone currently in the legislature, Wilder would use a city venue.  Second, Doug wants to be able to claim he is the kingmaker, so he will not do it until he can claim he made the difference, and when he does he will bring several other notable blacks with him.  That is, IF he decides to endorse, which he may well not do.

COMMENT HIDDEN (demo925 - 5/29/2006 5:27:09 PM)

How about something constructive? (JennyE - 5/29/2006 5:39:31 PM)
Miller spammers have invaded RK. Its become a nuisance.

This is so silly it doesn't require spin (Lowell - 5/29/2006 5:45:23 PM)
Get real.  Harris Miller's the one who's gotten the relatively "minor" endorsements.  Webb has snagged almost all the truly "big ones," people like Leslie Byrne, Chap Petersen, Phil Puckett, and Owen Pickett on the state level, not to mention Wes Clark, Harry Reid, Paul Hackett, and all the others on the national level.  Oh, and should we count Mark Warner as a de facto endorsement at this point?  We might as well, as far as I can tell.

By the way, why don't you just admit that you're an Allen supporter and stop pretending to be a Miller man.  Your act isn't fooling anyone any more than "Thomas Paine's" is.  Nice try, though!  LOL

Accuse Miller? (Arturo - 5/29/2006 5:47:37 PM)
We don't have to.  We know he has bought people.  That's what he has done throughout his professional life.

It's McEachin (Ben - 5/29/2006 5:28:29 PM)
That's what I am hearing.

that would represent a major change for him (teacherken - 5/29/2006 6:16:49 PM)
On April 18 he emphasized his intent to remain neutral, and also said that he was satisfied that Webb was okay on affirmative action.

If he has decided to endorse Webb, I would guess it would be because he is tired of the negativism from Miller, especially on that issue.

here's the link for that April 18th statement.

can someone explain why (teacherken - 5/29/2006 6:21:41 PM)
that before I posted this comment my browser told me that there were 12 comments on this thread, but I could only see 8.  Were there some trollrated comments that I do not yet have enough mojo to see?  If so, would you please give me mojo so I can see what was so foul about them, or at least tell me who posted them  (Tom Paine, tip o'neill, Kevin Schmidt,  or someone esle)?

huh? (James Martin - 5/29/2006 6:34:11 PM)
Your right!

Can you see them now? (Lowell - 5/29/2006 8:07:19 PM)
You should have plenty of "mojo" to see the troll-rated comments.

I only see 14 comments (teacherken - 5/29/2006 8:24:56 PM)
count says that there 18  were some comments deleted?

I didn't delete any comments... (Lowell - 5/29/2006 8:40:39 PM)
but some were "troll rated."  I may have to talk to the SoapBlox people about what's going on here, exactly.  We've only had this system a couple months, and this is the first major troll infestation.  Growing pains...

COMMENT HIDDEN (Thomas Paine - 5/30/2006 11:40:24 AM)

Are you really as stupid as you sound? (Lowell - 5/30/2006 11:59:28 AM)
Sorry to be so harsh, but you don't listen to anything people say, you twist everything around in the most bizarre ways, and you're just dead wrong most of the time on the facts.  I have stated, repeatedly, almost ad nauseum, how the SoapBlox system works.  Obviously, Raising Kaine can tweak the settings as much as we want.  What on earth does that have to do with "plausible deniability?"  I was simply trying to explain the system so people who have never used Daily Kos, MyDD, etc. can understand it.  I have also explained that your comments are being "troll rated" by members of this community almost as fast as you post them.  Does that tell you nothing?  Again, I ask, are you as stupid as you sound?  Is there any reason whatsoever why I shouldn't ban you for wasting our precious time?

Alright, that's enough (phriendlyjaime - 5/30/2006 11:44:15 AM)
Lowell-can you please either take away TU status from people who have not been deemed trust worthy, or just go ahead and can the ratings deal for all?  It has become an act of personal blogger masturbation for some of these people to come here and just spout nonsense, and it is now out of control.

This "Paine" character is not a "trusted user" (Lowell - 5/30/2006 12:01:50 PM)
But I can ban him, and I'm right on the edge of doing just that.  One more disrespectful, assinine comment and he's toast.  The only downside is that people won't have the privilege of seeing how clueless and nasty many of the most vocal Harris "suicide wing of the Democratic Party" Miller supporters are.

Please don't ban him. (thegools - 5/30/2006 8:16:59 PM)
I think his insults do provide a service.

You could be right. He makes Miller look (Lowell - 5/30/2006 9:03:00 PM)
really, really bad.

There's a possible clue on the website events calendar (Terry - 5/29/2006 7:42:05 PM)
He is with State Senator John Edwards on Wednesday so that would be my first guess. I'd love for it to also be Donald McEachin who I supported for AG.

Wasn't the Edwards event previously announced? (teacherken - 5/29/2006 7:44:51 PM)
Before today's teaser?  If so, it may be independent.  It could of course also be Edwards.  While that would not help with the Black community, he would be yet another person who has run statewide at least in a primary.

I could see Edwards (Dan - 5/29/2006 7:51:15 PM)
I guess we'll never get the endorsement from Billy Bob (Clinton), so my money is on Edwards.

Announcement tomorrow (Debby - 5/29/2006 9:02:33 PM)
Some are warm, some are cold. Nobody is hot.  Can't say more.

Dan, I believe the person is referring to the Virginia State Senator John Edwards, not the JE from NC who ran for VP.

Creigh Deeds? (thegools - 5/29/2006 9:39:34 PM)
perhaps.

I'm almost positive Creigh will stay neutral (DanG - 5/29/2006 10:13:39 PM)
McEachin would be nice.  Something state-wide would be nice.  Don't get me wrong, I like the national ones, but I get annoyed when Harris-fans say Webb has no state-wide endorsements.

I don't really get that (LAS - 5/29/2006 11:20:37 PM)
why they are so hung up on getting the state-wide endorsements, I mean. He's running for the U.S. Senate, where he will be making decisions of NATIONAL importance. This isn't a statewide office, so wouldn't national endorsements mean a lot more? Are we Virginians really that provincial?

In any case, I'm guessing McEachin, which would be very, very good.

Perhaps we can have Barak and Wilder for the general? Or am I just tempting fate by even talking about the time-after-June 13th?

Are we Virginians really that provincial? (Left Wing - 5/30/2006 10:38:49 AM)
YES...LOL!!!  I love the passion and enthusiasm of Webb supporters but sometimes we (I include myself) lose sight of the big picture.  Yes, we want a great senator that we can be proud of and Webb certainly is that.  But as important, if not more important, is to get rid of Allen and get a democratic majority in the Senate.

COMMENT HIDDEN (Thomas Paine - 5/30/2006 11:50:26 AM)

And Reid voted against the interests of the boxing regulation in question... (Loudoun County Dem - 5/30/2006 12:04:59 PM)
I will assume this was just an innocent oversight on your part.

John Solomon from the AP has written multiple articles trying to expose Reid's ties to scandal without mentioning that Reid voted against the lobbiest's interest in each case.

From talkingpointsmemo.com

http://www.tpmmuckraker.com/archives/000772.php

Back in February, the AP's John Solomon ran a lengthy piece detailing alleged contacts between Jack Abramoff's team at Greenberg Traurig and Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV). As Josh pointed out, although the article concentrated on the fact that Team Abramoff was lobbying Reid on behalf of sweatshop owners in the Northern Marianas, Solomon failed to note that Reid actually voted against the legislation Abramoff was pushing.

http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/008592.php

Sen. Reid (D-NV) voted against state boxing commission after accepting the commission's boxing tickets which Senate rules say he was allowed to accept.

Do they grow your kind somewhere? (JennyE - 5/30/2006 12:11:52 PM)
You say, "Abramoff money went to Reid... Reid money went to Webb.  Very interesting"

Fact check - Reid never received a dime from Abramoff.

On the boxing gifts, what Reid did was within his legal right to accept gifts from a state government, which is not prohibited by the way. And what makes your argument even more foolish is that Reid actually voted to impose further regulations on the Nevada boxing commission. Yes, he voted over the commissions objections.

And how the heck do you even manage to connect this all to Webb? And you call yourself a very influential Democrat? Maybe in your own world.

http://www.tpmmuckraker.com/archives/000772.php

Sorry this was a response to Paine's inane post (JennyE - 5/30/2006 12:13:44 PM)

This guy is probably an Allen supporter... (Lowell - 5/30/2006 1:13:35 PM)
I can't believe even a MILLER supporter could say such crazy things.  Well, maybe 4 or 5 of them, come to think of it...

I hate to burst YOUR bubble.... (Left Wing - 5/30/2006 2:18:17 PM)
...but LAS didn't in any way imply that Webb has to win nationwide!!

As U.S. Senator, he will be working with other Senators and leaders.  Getting nationwide endorsements shows he has thier friendship and respect and will work well with others.

The Abramoff money chain of events is laughable!  Like the six degrees of Kevin Bacon.

I voted for you not to be banned....which I'm rethinking!

If you are a good democrat then maybe you ought to hold off on trying to connect Webb to Abramoff.

I'm impressed (Arturo - 5/30/2006 10:14:51 AM)
with Del. McEachin. He made up his own mind rather than listening to lies about Webb's position on Affirmative Action. Good for him!

update his website (TurnVirginiaBlue - 5/30/2006 11:45:39 AM)
http://www.donaldmceachin.com/

someone needs to get them to update the website.

It's not on the webb campaign site either.

It's on Webb's now. n/t (phriendlyjaime - 5/30/2006 2:20:04 PM)

I emailed Don-you should too! :) (phriendlyjaime - 5/30/2006 2:26:35 PM)
I just wanted to thank him for the endorsement; perhaps he will update his website soon.

Let's all give him a huge thanks!

I Donald McEachin! (Left Wing - 5/30/2006 2:41:58 PM)
When I worked the polls for Kaine on election day I had the early shift.  Don dropped off some of his workers and offered to go out and get me some breakfast.  He's a sweet, sweet man and a very good endorsement!

I just e-mailed him to say "thank you!" (Lowell - 5/30/2006 2:41:53 PM)
