703-314-1473Springfield, VA -- The Virginia Chapter of Progressive Democrats of America (PDA-VA) has endorsed Andrew Hurst in the June 13 Democratic primary for the 11th congressional district. PDA-VA works to promote progressive change in policies regarding the Iraq war, health care, the electoral process, the economy, the environment, and other areas.
"Andy Hurst is a progressive," said PDA-VA 11th CD point person Stephen L. Spitz in a recent press release. "He is a dynamic candidate who is not shy about challenging the Republican culture of corruption."
The rigorous endorsement process required both campaigns to complete a detailed questionnaire and undergo an interview with PDA-VA members.
The organization cited Andrew's commitment to fighting the "corruption that obstructs vital reform of health care, energy and environmental policies," and his support of the "Murtha resolution to end the war in Iraq" as reasons for making the endorsement.
The PDA-VA endorsement comes directly on the heels of a convincing victory last week in a straw poll hosted by the Prince William Democratic Committee. Results of that poll showed 73% of Prince William Democrats favoring Andrew Hurst over his primary opponent, Ken Longmyer.
By the way, Andy will be liveblogging here on June 6th at 8:30 PM. I look forward to it, and invite his opponent for the Democratic nomination, Ken Longmyer, to do the same.
