I received a robo call tonight from Leslie Byrne for Webb...
By: Loudoun County Dem
Published On: 5/25/2006 9:58:25 PM
She said that we will be hearing alot of negative ads against Jim Webb in the next few weeks and that we should not believe them.
She also said that, as far as she is concerned, Jim Webb is a Democrat and she proudly endorses him for Senate.
The name Harris Miller never came up.
[UPDATE by Lowell: See full transcript of Leslie Byrne's phone call in the comments section. Thanks, and GO WEBB!!]

I got it too...great job by Leslie!! (Lowell - 5/25/2006 10:32:42 PM)
:)
First time ever I was thrilled to receive a robo call! (LAS - 5/25/2006 11:57:41 PM)
"Jim Webb was the only one in this race with the courage to speak out against the war in Iraq before it started."
Did I get that right? Pretty close, I think.
Loved it!
"Hi, this is Leslie Byrne..." (Lowell - 5/26/2006 8:49:45 AM)
"...and I'm calling in support of my friend, Democrat Jim Webb for the US Senate, who Time Magazine called George Allen's worst nightmare.
"In the coming weeks you may receive mailings and phone calls with false negative attacks from Jim's opponent. Don't believe them! Jim is a great Democrat, and that's why he has been endorsed by so many Democratic leaders from Virginia and from the nation.
"This campaign is about who can bring real leadership to Washington, not tired old baseless attacks.
"Jim Webb is a decorated Vietnam war veteran, former Secretary of the Navy, and the only candidate in this race with the courage to oppose the war in Iraq before it began. And he will always stand up for us against the special interests.
"In the June 13th Democratic primary, vote for leadership, vote for Jim Webb."
Jim Webb: "Paid for and authorized by Jim Webb for Senate. This is Jim Webb. Thank you."
AWESOME (Dude - 5/26/2006 9:54:40 AM)
WOW
Thank god these calls have started... (Delta Mike - 5/26/2006 10:03:25 AM)
... all my neighbors seem like they are voting based on how many papers/robocalls they receive, and Miller is waaaaaaaaay ahead on that.
Go Webb (thegools - 5/26/2006 11:27:13 AM)
If it is any consolation I have not received any calls in Fauquier county.
So it is Leslie Byrne vs. Sue... (Loudoun County Dem - 5/26/2006 10:05:00 AM)
Mismatch...
COMMENT HIDDEN (Thomas Paine - 5/26/2006 12:10:20 PM)
Misinformation... (Loudoun County Dem - 5/26/2006 12:16:47 PM)
The primary Miller campaign strategy.
COMMENT HIDDEN (Thomas Paine - 5/26/2006 12:50:59 PM)
Wrong. (phriendlyjaime - 5/26/2006 12:56:26 PM)
Is Leslie Misinformed? Does She Know About Webb's 2002 Endorsements of Republicans? (0.20 / 5)
Some Democrats are raising grave concerns about Leslie Byrne taking such an active role in Webb's campaign, particularly in light of the fact that Webb spoke on behalf of Republican legislative candidates in Maryland just before the 2002 election.
Nice spin; too bad it isn't true.
COMMENT HIDDEN (Thomas Paine - 5/26/2006 1:18:50 PM)
Can it (phriendlyjaime - 5/26/2006 1:25:56 PM)
You underwear freak.
COMMENT HIDDEN (Thomas Paine - 5/26/2006 2:20:07 PM)
You are an elitist. (phriendlyjaime - 5/26/2006 2:27:24 PM)
I certainly don't care whether or not you are "crushed." Nor does anyone else on RK. As you can see, most of your comments are disappearing bc people are troll rating them out of existance.
Frankly, if we met and actually had a discussion, I would blow you out of the water with FACTS as opposed to rhetoric. You would be left sulking in a sniveling pile, while I would be lauded for my intelligence and sparkling personality.
But hey...keep playing. You have become everyone's favorite troll.
now if only the bumper sticker would arrive (Nell - 5/26/2006 4:26:33 PM)
It was a happy accident to get the Leslie Byrne robo-call on voice mail, because it made it easy to save. What a pleasant contrast to the screechy 'Sue' call I had to hang up on last week!
But I'm beginning to lose hope of getting that bumpersticker I ordered two months ago... despite having contributed.
I'm getting together with some friends this weekend to send out copies of the Roanoke Times oped with notes, and to make some calls. We'll work to generate a few letters to the editor, too.
This primary seems like a total crapshoot from here, where the votes are thin on the ground and there's been only a momentary campaign.
Great call from Leslie. (summercat - 5/26/2006 4:48:56 PM)
We need more of the same--and even a robo call from Jim would be nice. I believe he campaign is gong to send out some direct mail. Not a moment too soon.
COMMENT HIDDEN (Thomas Paine - 5/27/2006 9:30:22 AM)
I will not Mock Miller supporters (thegools - 5/27/2006 12:42:32 PM)
I will not mock Miller supporters or even Allen supporters. It is simply rude and unbecoming, and uncivil.
Most people are good even though we may disagree from time to time.
COMMENT HIDDEN (Thomas Paine - 5/27/2006 12:25:20 PM)
Dude, you're getting "troll" rated by readers (Lowell - 5/27/2006 12:32:51 PM)
If you collect enough "troll" ratings, your post disappears except for "trusted users." That's the way it works in Scoop and SoapBlox-type systems. Perhaps you might want to change your approach?
I didn't worry about Roadguy (teacherken - 5/27/2006 3:47:07 PM)
but I think I pretty well took apart Kevin. That is, I pointed out how he took himself apart, both on that thread (which despite 50+ comments only got 3 recommends) and on the one on Ingrid's diary (which had over 100 recommends - not bad for a first diary).
Troll-rating? (thegools - 5/27/2006 12:58:34 PM)
Please explain to a blog neophyte (me) what Troll-rating means, how it is done etc...
Is it censorship by the masses? Who is it meant for?
I know what a troll.
You can rate any comment on here... (Lowell - 5/27/2006 1:08:32 PM)
including the dreaded "zero" for "troll." If someone collects enough "troll" ratings, their comment disappears. It's the same system, pretty much, used at Daily Kos, MyDD, etc. It's a form of community policing, essentially, to discourage people posting - as the
definition states - "inflammatory, rude or offensive messages designed to intentionally annoy and antagonize the existing members or disrupt the flow of discussion."
People like "Thomas Paine," for instance.
Thomas Paine (thegools - 5/27/2006 2:02:12 PM)
was a truly important figure and to be honored in US history.
It is a shame that some people co-opt the name of Great Men & Women to project commentaries that are entirely unlike/unrelated to the great names that they hijack.
Perhaps "Not Thomas Paine" would be a more fitting name.
