Wow. Just wow. Check this story out here and here. The Speaker of the House might be caught up in the Abramoff lobbying scandal? If that's true, how many other House Republicans will end up being in trouble? Could some of Virginia's own fine Republican Representatives - oh, Virgil "MZM" Goode let's just say - be involved? Stay tuned.
Comments
Dennis Hastert... (Arturo - 5/24/2006 9:31:19 PM)
He was supported by Harris Miller... Could Harris Miller be involved too?
ABC is standing by the story (Lowell - 5/25/2006 7:11:22 AM)
See
here. So, who do we believe, DOJ or ABC? In other words, who do we trust less? Argh.
And How Many Other Lobbyists (Alicia - 5/24/2006 9:40:53 PM)
did Hastert he take "vote money" or "vote gifts" from? I wonder.
It's no wonder... (Corey - 5/24/2006 10:03:10 PM)
It's no wonder Hastert has been vehemently against the FBI investigating Congressman Jefferson. He knows what they will find if they investigate him.
I think Mark Kleiman has the best explanation (teacherken - 5/24/2006 10:06:48 PM)
which you can read

Disclosure -- Mark and I overlapped at Haverford, and have cooperated on one issue recently.
Hastert collects $926,454 from lobbyists (Mookie - 5/24/2006 11:42:24 PM)
second only to Tom DeLay in the House. See the Public Citizen Report at
http://www.citizen.org/documents/BankrollersFinal.pdf
Number 6 for 2006 cycle and his opponent is a newcomer to politics. Top Congressional recipient of lobbyist contribution since 1998. Hastert's son works for his best friend - a lobbyist - and this same friend's wife works for Hastert's PAC.
Virginia's own Tom Davis features prominently in this report. He collects more lobbyist cash than 428 of the 435 members of the House, making him #8 behind only DeLay, Hastert, Murtha, Lewis (Appropriations chair), Hoyer (Whip), Boehner (Majority Leader), and Oxley (Financial Services Committee). Just this year he's reported over $138k from lobbyists and PACs. That's 12 times more than Virgil Goode, the Rep caught up in the Watergate hookers scandal, and twice as much as Frank Wolf.
