I am presuming that the accident occurred at the final event of his schedule today, with the Vietnamese community, because he was still in fine fettle when he left his event in N Arlington shortly after 6 PM.
A bit more about that below the fold.
This was supposedly a high-dollar event, but I managed to get in for less because I have already given a lot, the host knew me, and I pointed out that this might be the only time before the primary that my wife (Leaves on the Current in her rare posts at dailykos) would have to see Jim.
I did not do a head count, but the host said that they had had rsponses from over 100 people -- I think the maximum there at any time was about half that, but some may have responded with contributions even though they were not attending.
The highlights included a song written by Inrigd Morroy (?and her twin Judith) and performed by the Morroy twins. Ingrid wanted me to blog the song, but I told her she should.
Barbara Favola of Arlington County Board explained why after careful consideration of both Democratic candidates she decided to endorse JIm. The candidate spoke for about 10-12 minutes, then taook questions for another 20-25. The man can listen to a two or three part question, keep all of the parts in his mind and give you a detailed response that places your question in a broader context. Methinks that any undecideds or weak supporters present were fully convinced.
My wife is not easily convinced. I watched her head bobbing up and down as Jim spoke. As an ardent environmentalist she was quite pleased with Jim's position on ANWR, which he expressed in response to a question after his opening remarks.
Now, if all those impressed by Jim not only continue to support him financially and vote themselves, but also persuade others tghey know to turn up on June 13 and vote for Jim Webb, even the apparent effort by some Allen supporters to turn out Republicans to vote for Miller as the weaker candidate will not matter.
All I have time for.
