Read the letter, and if you agree with it, please take action here. Let's find out if Jerry Kilgore's buddy George Allen listens more to the citizens of Virginia or to the big oil companies who threaten our environment. Thanks.
Dear Lowell,Louisiana Senator Landrieu, with the support of George Allen, is expected today to try to attach an amendment to the National Energy Bill that WOULD ALLOW VIRGINIA TO OPT-OUT OF THE NATIONAL MORATORIUM ON OFFSHORE NATURAL
GAS AND OIL DRILLING!!Problem: A moratorium protecting our coasts from polluting oil and gas drilling has been in place for over two decades. Big energy companies are trying to drill off our coasts so they can make big bucks in the global energy market. Senator George Allen is a big proponent of this plan and has been working with some members of the U.S. Senate to open our coasts to drilling. This year, Governor Warner vetoed a bad bill that would have promoted such a scheme in Congress.
Drilling off our coast will do nothing to reduce our dependence on foreign oil, and will only industrialize our fragile coasts and beaches. Allowing states to opt-out from the national moratorium is Big Oil's first step to drilling the entire Atlantic Seaboard. What happens off one state's coast will no doubt impact neighboring state's coasts. We need to stop this today!
Solution: Only making our cars and trucks go further on a gallon of gas, increasing energy efficiency, and investing in renewable energy will lead us to energy freedom. Our Senators need to know that Virginians are opposed to drilling off our beaches.
Action Needed: Follow the link below to tell Senator Allen and Warner you are opposed to Senator Landrieu's amendment that would remove Virginia from the offshore drilling moratorium!
Deadline for responding: Please take action by 05/31/05.
