This past Sunday, 104 people attended the Potomac Nationals game with the Prince William Democratic Committee (PWDC). According to PWDC chairman Vic Bras, they held a straw poll for Congress and Senate. Here's Vic's report:
Despite being Mothers' Day and having bad weather we had a total attendance of 104, including children. The results of the straw poll are:
HURST: 47
LONGMYER: 17
ABSTENTIONS: 4
WEBB: 33
MILLER: 25
ABSTENTIONS: 9
INVALID: 1 (Both candidates selected)
That's an impressive victory - nearly 3:1 - for Andy Hurst over Ken Longmyer in the PWDC straw poll. It's also another nice victory for Jim Webb over Harris Miller among Democratic Party activists. In fact, Webb's 57%-43% victory margin in PWDC is similar to his 58%-42% victory at Gerry Connolly's St. Patrick's Day in Fairfax back in mid-March. A sign of things to come on June 13?

Hell, I've always thought that in the primary, it's the grassroots that matter more than anything else, since they're gonna be the ones voting. And the majority of the Democrats in the know prefer Webb.
We've got 2,200 volunteers for Webb (Lowell - 5/16/2006 10:19:25 AM)
If each one of them e-mails 20 friends and family reminding them to vote for Webb on June 13, that's 44,000 people right there. Let's crank up the "viral marketing" for Jim Webb!
PS I'd be shocked if Miller had more than than 50-100 true (e.g., not paid) volunteers statewide.
3:1 for Andrew Hurst (Mookie - 5/16/2006 10:18:19 AM)
Between his family and his campaign people, Ken brought 14 people with him. Many of the others sitting around him must have voted for Hurst when Ken wasn't looking. No wonder Ken left so disappointed right after the announcement. Andy really gets people excited about being a Democrat again. If anyone can beat Davis, it's Andy.
