Miller Facing the Wind

There's a great old saying that goes "When you engage the laws of nature in a pissing match, you always face the wind"

With the Democratic leadership of the US Senate and Virginia's favorite Democrat giving Webb his blessing last night, Harris Miller is now facing the wind.  Miller's campaign has pulled some pretty low-down dirty tricks and smear tactics against Webb but his attempt to recycle his old local party endorsements to cut into Webb's endorsements yesterday was just pathetic.  Along with his robo-calling push-polls and fundraising for Dennis Hastert and other far right-wing Republicans, Miller has screwed his own future in national Democratic politics and is damaging the progress we have made in Virginia while Jim Webb is expanding our Democratic base.

[More below the fold, including an open invitation for Webb volunteers TONIGHT!- Josh]
Everyone I know or have run into lately, who is tuning into the Senate race is coming out for Webb.  Half the people I know volunteering for Miller aren't even planning on voting for him.  They're just going through the motions out of courtesy.

At the Warner/Webb fundraiser last night, Democratic leaders were saying they felt sorry for Miller because there was so much energy in the room for Jim Webb.  That energy is more palpable than anything I saw (in Virginia) for Howard Dean, Kerry Edwards or even Tim Kaine in '05.  I think the reason for this is that in addition to the Integrity, Character and Leadership the former bring to the table, Jim Webb also brings an extra dose of +óGéĽ+ôbackbone+óGéĽ-Ą to the Democratic Party.  And that ingredient is what so many people are looking for.

Miller probably thinks he's supposed to use Republican style tactics in order to win but he has pissed off so many people in the Party that he's gonna have to pay big bucks for another endorsement.  And most people are already seeing through what he is doing; especially when the staff and volunteers of his biggest endorsements are volunteering on Webb's campaign.  I can't imagine anyone looking at the race now and joining Miller's side.  As people take a more serious look at Webb they will see he is far more of a Democrat than Harris Miller ever attempted to be.

The wind is at our back and it's time to trim the sails and blow past Miller in the primary with plenty of speed going into the general election against Allen.  Hope to see everyone at the Webb Volunteer Party tonight.

Come meet Jim Webb, his campaign staff and hear how the volunteer organization is now structured.  Enjoy food and drink and join the most exciting race in 2006.

Over 2000 volunteers for Webb already. (DemTilDeath - 5/12/2006 11:55:58 AM)
Wow.  And the number keeps growing.  Very impressive.

Nothing Attracts a Crowd Like a Crowd (Josh - 5/12/2006 12:00:53 PM)
Jim Webb's campaign is beginning to have history written all over it.  The support, the message, the man, are all nearly unprecedented in Virginia politics, possibly in American politics.  He's the cinderella story, he's the Newt Gingrich of 2006, he's the walking embodyment of everything our nation has lost and he'll fight for us in the US Senate if we fight hard enough to put him there.

A new Webb Theme Song brewin? (Josh - 5/12/2006 12:21:49 PM)
“You don’t tug on Superman’s cape,
You don’t spit into the wind.
You don’t pull the mask off that ol’ Lone Ranger
And you don’t mess around with Jim!” (lyrics by Jim Croche)

Unfortunately... (Tom Joad (Kevin) - 5/12/2006 1:45:07 PM)
the rest of the song isn't that rosy for Jim.

"Well a hush fell over the pool room
Jimmy come boppin' in off the street
And when the cuttin' were done
The only part that wasn't bloody
Was the soles of the big man's feet
Yeah he were cut in in bout a hundred places
And he were shot in a couple more
And you better believe
They sung a different kind of story
When big Jim hit the floor now they say

You don't tug on Superman's cape
You don't spit into the wind
You don't pull the mask off that old Lone Ranger
And you don't mess around with Slim

Yeah, big Jim got his hat
Find out where it's at
And it's not hustlin' people strange to you
Even if you do got a two-piece custom-made pool cue

Yeah you don't tug on Superman's cape
You don't spit into the wind
You don't pull the mask off the old Lone Ranger
And you don't mess around with Slim "

I won't back down (Josh - 5/12/2006 2:31:03 PM)
I guess the Webb campaign will just have to stick with Tom Petty for now.

Hell, I love that song!

Last week I thought they should switch to Johny Cash's "I been everywhere, man".  That thing is just too damned much fun, and somehow Johnny Cash strikes me as a Jim Webb kinda guy.

I always liked (Tom Joad (Kevin) - 5/12/2006 3:12:52 PM)
"Ain't No Stopping Us Now" by McFadden and Whitehead.

SWVA Volunteers... (Liberal Pi - 5/12/2006 2:55:38 PM)
What about folks in SWVA who want to volunteer on the Webb campaign? I'd love to come support Jim, but everything is based in NOVA.

Liberal Pi: I want you to know (Ingrid - 5/12/2006 4:11:30 PM)
that the Webb campaign is on the way to SWVA. Please email me at imorroy@yahoo.com, and I will get you in touch with the right people.
