Yesterday afternoon, I was a guest for an hour on the Coy Barefoot radio show in Charlottesville.  If you want a really good laugh (or cry), you can listen to it here.  Enjoy...or not! :)

Coincidence? (Neal2028 - 5/9/2006 3:16:44 PM)
Strangely enough, Lowell sounds somewhat similar to Kenton Ngo.

Two great Democrat bloggers.  Same sounding voice.  Coincidence?  I think not so...

Hmmmm.... (Lowell - 5/9/2006 3:36:30 PM)
I wonder what Kenton has to say about that!

Actually.... (Brian - 5/9/2006 4:09:40 PM)
You folks from Northern Virginia, with your heavy accents, all sound the same to me!  :)

LMAO (Lowell - 5/9/2006 4:26:25 PM)
That was the best laugh I've had all week.  Thanks Brian! :)

Why can't y'all speak like proper Southrons? (JC - 5/9/2006 4:39:37 PM)
Why can't y'all speak like proper Southrons?

Cuz I'm a Northron by birth... (Lowell - 5/9/2006 4:57:54 PM)
:)

Loved it!! (summercat - 5/9/2006 4:50:01 PM)
Thanks, Lowell!

Yep. Nice Job. (David Lang - 5/9/2006 5:02:34 PM)
One thing, you talk l-l-l-ike a kid.

Ha, I guess I'm just young at heart... (Lowell - 5/9/2006 5:14:44 PM)
too many "ums" was the main problem, I'd say.  Time for media training!  :)

Uh...Uh.... (The Ditzy Democrats - 5/9/2006 5:22:04 PM)
You ramble a bit and use "uh" too often (Not that I'm one to talk, my speech prof used to rag on me for that!) but it was very good! It was also very true to "you"- it sounded like you, not only in terms of your voice, but in terms of how you spoke, your phraseology, and your general attitude. Great stuff!

PS- What is it with you and "Draft" organizations? ;)

Draft organizations are good... (Lowell - 5/9/2006 5:29:21 PM)
for people who ramble and use "uh" too much! :)

I'll tell you what... (Neal2028 - 5/9/2006 5:22:09 PM)
I've heard myself in recordings and on the radio before, and, I've always thought I had a good speaking voice, but it always sounds so different.  I'm sure that's the same with everyone.

And, about accents, I don't really think I have one, even though I live like 3 miles from where I was born and both my parents and my sister have thick accents.  I've missed out on something...

HA! (phriendlyjaime - 5/9/2006 5:28:45 PM)
Great Job, Lowell, and yes...I giggled.

But speaking of accents, try this one for size...

My father is from Poland, moved here at 16, so I say certain things like I have some weird broken english thing going on....like TEEE-ve, and ice CREAM.

Lived in Clifton NJ my whole life, 11 miles outside NYC, so you know what accent THAT is like..."Can I get some KAWFEE please, I mean, Jesuhs, CHA-RIYST!"  and yes, I had big hair, and I liked it.

Moved to Ohio for college, where any long a vowel sound "aaa-ple" turned into "yeah-ple," minus the "y."

Now I live here in Richmond, and my family either laughs or hangs up on me as I "y'all" my way trhough a conversation, and "ah-ffer" people "cah-fee."

You did great! (Kathy Gerber - 5/9/2006 6:55:47 PM)
A few umm's are ok :)

Agreed. (DemTilDeath - 5/9/2006 8:00:05 PM)
Nice job Lowell.  I'd like to hear you on more of these types of radio shows.  Next time it might be a good idea to make clear the spelling of RK so that you can be sure folks can get there.  Just a thought.

Thanks. And good idea about the spelling of RK (Lowell - 5/9/2006 8:46:57 PM)
I suppose there are people in Virginia who can't spell our Governor's name, or who think this is a reference to Cain and Abel. :)

Way to go... (Kindler - 5/9/2006 8:54:57 PM)
Good job, Lowell.  I bet ol' drug-addled Rush Limbaugh is quaking in his boots right now...  ;-)
