The movie "Rules of Engagement"

Today I rented a DVD of the movie "Rules of Engagement" [2000, 128min, Samuel L. Jackson, Tommy Lee Jones, Ben Kingsley, Anne Archer], and watched it.  James Webb was author of the story (but not the movie script) and was an executive producer for the movie.

Strictly speaking, the story isn't autobiographical.  However, I know enough about Webb's life to know that a number of details of the story bear close resemblance to events of his life. Therefore, if you want to understand Webb the man, you should watch this movie as well as read his book "Born Fighting".

The movie makes it obvious that Webb believes deeply in the concept of *honor*, as practiced by professional military officers.  I am glad that some people in this modern world still live by this fundamental concept of personal honesty and duty. It is easy to understand why Webb has received endorsements from so many high-ranking officers.

I recommend "Rules of Engagement".
