James Webb and George Allen on C-Span!!!!

Hey, here's the deal...

I was late to work today, and I have a ton of crap to do, so I am counting on those of you at Raising Kaine with some free time to try to get some more details on this.

Follow me......
This morning, while getting ready for work SLOWLY after my celebratory "My first graduate course is complete, and I made it through 7 papers and 1000 pages of reading" dinner/wine fest, I was listening to Washington Journal, as I do every morning.  If anyone is unfamiliar with the program, I highly suggest it; good spread of the news, and the callers are great because you ALWAYS feel smarter after listening to the Republicans, and sometimes the Dems too.  Anywho...apparently, the Richmond Times "Dispatch" has a piece on WHY James Webb did not go after Allen on the confederate flag issue, citing from Webb's website and books about his support for the Confederates.  I ran to the teevee, and I missed most of the short blip, and NOW, I cannot find this article anywhere!!!  HELP!!!  I didn't get the gyst!!!

So, go find it, if you can, so we can discuss what is probably another "Republicans are just BETTER!" article in the RT Disgrace.

Bueller?  Bueller?  Anyone?

RTD Article (Josh - 5/5/2006 10:24:17 AM)
Interesting stuff in that article:

http://www.timesdispatch.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=RTD%2FMGArticle%2FRTD_BasicArticle&c=MGArticle&cid=1137835812592&path=%21news&s=1045855934842

Wadhams, who said he was unaware of Webb's praise for the Confederate soldiers, said yesterday that the Allen campaign did not want to comment on the speech.

"unaware", yeah right.

OK... (phriendlyjaime - 5/5/2006 10:29:05 AM)
I did so many google searches...does the disgrace try to hide things, bc I couldn't find that anywhere!!!

What are your secrets?  ;)

I just went to the times dispatch site... (Josh - 5/5/2006 10:36:19 AM)
their search is no better.

I'll have to check their tags but I think they mark all of their pages "no spider, no agent" so they don't end up in the search engines.  I'm not sure.

Hey jaime (Kathy Gerber - 5/5/2006 10:38:38 AM)
There's an agitprop piece in the RTD today and that must be what that's about.

Here it is Webb speech praised Confederate Army

OK... (phriendlyjaime - 5/5/2006 10:41:25 AM)
read them.

I then wrote the author of the article in the disgrace askinghim why he didn't include anything else from the new republic artcile in his piece, such as Allen being abusive and racist, and not just "hanging a piece of history in his office."

Ugh.  Sometimes I DO want to go back to my blue state, but I will stay strong....

The Disgrace guy is writing back! (phriendlyjaime - 5/5/2006 11:00:04 AM)
I'll keep you posted.

It might be worth it to write him; apparently they DID print that Allen pulled his sister down the stairs, but in 2000, when he was running against Robb.  I told him to print it again, it's a new election.

bzzt (Kathy Gerber - 5/5/2006 11:12:28 AM)
The painfully obvious goal of the article is to conflate Webb's family and historical writings with Allen's overt racism via the Confederacy.

Miller hopes that folks won't bother to look any deeper than the C word, and will vote for him.  That's the best he can do - provoke the fray then point to himself as standing nobly above the fray.

The question remains: name one person in this country who has worked harder than Harris Miller to offshore American jobs.

Kathy (phriendlyjaime - 5/5/2006 11:19:48 AM)
sometimes you are like the valium I need....

I'm very lucky. (Kathy Gerber - 5/5/2006 11:35:41 AM)
My friends send me stuff like this article to remind me to keep up the good fight because we're all in this together.

Southern Heritage (Josh - 5/5/2006 11:14:44 AM)
There is a true, honorable, and decent Southern heritage that is not based on hatred.  Today we drive our cars while the icecaps melt and future generations will decry us our complacency, that doesn't mean we champion worldwide natural extinction and the death of birth.

Generations and generations of Jim Webb's forebears stretching back to the American Revolution helped to build this nation.  When Webb speaks of the honor of Confederate soldiers he is speaking of his kin.  George Allen can make no such claim.  George Allen took his own hate and usurped the symbol of a proud people.

George Allen's use of the Confederacy is an affront to all those who truly lived and died for their beliefs.

Webb's Heritage, Allen's Hate.

Great comment , Josh. (Lowell - 5/5/2006 11:24:11 AM)
You should expand on this for a full-length, front-page RK article.  This is VERY important.

Great Piece Josh (Debby - 5/5/2006 4:07:30 PM)
Please send this in to the RTD LTTE!  Please.  This is such an important distinction, and lets Mr. Whitley and everyone else know that we're not dumb and blind to that distinction.

You nicely pointed out that George Allen has no such claim to Southern Heritage, or to military service to our country at any step along the way.  I'd love for you to include Harris Miller in that somehow.  Miller made a statement that Tyler quoted, something like "I wouldn't have said that".  Well, the fact is, Harris Miller COULDN'T have said that because he has no family or personal history of service either.
