The bottom line, as I saw in the Clark and Dean campaigns, and as I'm seeing in this campaign, is that the "amateurs" (from the Latin word "amātor," a "devotee, enthusiastic pursuer of an objective"), are the greatest - passionate, talented, and committed to what they're doing.
Anyway, today was another great day for the Webb grassroots. All told, as of 11:30 AM we are well on the way to meeting and greeting thousands of voters at dozens of polling places in the cities noted above. By the end of today, we will have handed out at least 2,000 pieces of "Webb for Senate" literature to voters. We will have spread the word about Webb, through our presence and our Webb yard signs, to thousands more. We will have urged people - almost all of whom are definite Democratic voters - to vote for Jim Webb in the Democratic Senate primary on June 13. Great stuff. Oh, and no Harris Miller presence to be found...must be HIS vaunted grassroots operation once again (not!!).
Personally, I very much enjoyed my 2 1/2-hour stint this morning at the Mt. Vernon Recreation Center in Alexandria. Overall, the reception for Jim Webb was highly enthusiastic, with a strong desire expressed by voters to beat George Allen, and an understanding that Jim Webb was the best Democrat to do that. And beating George Allen is, indeed, a task which Jim Webb fully intends to accomplish. Remember, people don't say this man was "Born Fighting" for nothing!
P.S. It was great talking to Rep. Jim Moran and several of his staff today. These guys rock!
