Mark Warner: Iowa, New Hampshire, Wisconsin and...Israel

According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Mark Warner is off tonight for Israel, where his "agenda includes meetings with Ehud Olmert, the interim prime minister of Israel, and King Abdullah II of Jordan."
Smart move by Warner, beefing up his foreign policy credentials in preparation for a 2008 run for the Democratic Presidential nod. Now, if Warner would only throw his full support behind Jim Webb - the guy who scares the heck out of George Allen, and the one who's going to win the primary - maybe Webb could help him crank up Warner's national security credentials as well. Sounds like a good deal to me.
In the meantime, enjoy your trip to Israel, Governor Warner. Having lived there for 6 months, I can tell you it's an amazing place. Hopefully, you'll get to check out a bit of Jordan as well, particularly Petra - "the rose-red city, half as old as time" - and Jerash - one of the best preserved Roman cities in the world. Both are fascinating.

I agree Warner's endorsement would be nice, but he will not do it i he has any sense. He will endorse after the primary. before then he would turn of some portion of his base.
Warner won't endorse (Debby - 5/1/2006 9:26:01 AM)
That would be taking a stand behind the man he feels is the best possible candidate to beat George Allen, and would be the best senator. In this case, that's Jim Webb on both counts.
Warner won't take a stand because it could hurt him politically and financially. I'd rather see him stand up for what is best.

I can echo Lowell. The whole area is fascinating, and the people--Jews, Arabs, others--are great. I hope Mr. Warner gets an in depth idea of the complexities of our ME policy. Arab-Israeli issues require a lot of nuance.
