Today I'm proud of Jim Moran, proud to live in Virginia, and proud to be an American!
The AP is reporting:
WASHINGTON - Five Congress members were willingly arrested and led away from the Sudanese Embassy in plastic handcuffs Friday in protest of the Sudanese government's role in atrocities in the Darfur region.
"The slaughter of the people of Darfur must end," Rep. Tom Lantos (news, bio, voting record), D-Calif., a Holocaust survivor who founded the Congressional Human Rights Caucus, said from the embassy steps before his arrest.
Four other Democratic Congress members +óGé¼GÇ¥ James McGovern and John Olver of Massachusetts, Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas and Jim Moran of Virginia +óGé¼GÇ¥ were among 11 protesters arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and unlawful assembly, a misdemeanor subject to a fine.
That's standing up for what you believe in! That's leadership!

Good for him!! I'd much rather have him than Eric Cantor as my Rep.
Iew, Cantor... (phriendlyjaime - 4/28/2006 1:22:19 PM)

I am giving Moran a standing o at my desk (co-workers staring...)!!!
Virgil's mine (Kathy Gerber - 4/28/2006 2:54:53 PM)

That's a good man right there (Greg Bouchillon - 4/28/2006 1:22:53 PM)
If you break the law to protest it, you must be willing to go to jail to show that you still respect all laws.
Josh, find out how much the fine is, I'll pay it.
I'll chip in. (Lowell - 4/28/2006 1:53:47 PM)
You da man, Jim Moran! :)
Count me in... (Maura in VA - 4/28/2006 3:14:47 PM)
...I'd happily chip in to a fund. In fact, it might be a cool earned media thing -- Virginia Democratic bloggers raise money to pay the fine, and anything extra (assuming we'd raise much more than the fine itself) could go to a charity that directly benefits the people from Darfur who are in refugee camps. What do you think?
Great idea, Maura! (Lowell - 4/28/2006 3:39:54 PM)
Do you want to write something on this for RK?
What is wrong (Kathy Gerber - 4/28/2006 2:54:10 PM)
when we handcuff Congressmen for standing against slaughter, while the hookergate thugs are laughing all the way to the bank in the back of a limo paid for with our tax dollars?
