Love 'em or hate 'em, there's no doubt that MoveOn.org is effective.

Case in point, MoveOn.org last month ran a series of ads in the districts of the US Reps who'd taken the most money from the Pharmaceutical industry while having most influence in getting the egregiously costly and retrograde Medicare D bill passed in the US House.

MoveOn.org targeted 4 Reps, including Virginia's most conservative legislator, Thelma Drake.  They ran the ad and Thelma Drake's support dropped 9 points.  Here's Howling Latina's coverage, here's what Moveon.org had to say about the whole thing, and here's the video.

+óGé¼+ôLast month, MoveOn ran ads showing Rep. Drake+óGé¼Gäós addiction to oil company money while we pay more at the pump. Today, we see that she also sides with big drug companies while some seniors have to chose between paying their rent and paying for medication,+óGé¼-¥ said Guy Sturino, a MoveOn member and community leader who has lived and worked in Virgina+óGé¼Gäós 2nd district for more than 10 years.

+óGé¼+ôWe need someone who+óGé¼Gäóll represent the people of the 2nd District of Virginia, not the big drug companies who fund Congresswoman Drake+óGé¼Gäós campaigns,+óGé¼-¥ he concluded.

+óGé¼+ôMedicare would have been able to negotiate much lower prescription drug prices with pharmaceutical companies if Congress hadn+óGé¼Gäót voted to prohibit it. This bill raises the cost to seniors across the country by tens of billions each year,+óGé¼-¥ said Dean Baker, an economist and Medicare expert who co-directs the Center for Economic and Policy Research in Washington, DC.

PHIL KELLAM FOR CONGRESS!

Quick question (Virginia Centrist - 4/27/2006 1:36:27 PM)
Where are the polling numbers coming from?

From the MoveOn link above (Rob - 4/27/2006 2:29:59 PM)
"The tracking polls were conducted by Voter Roll Call, an affiliate of the nation’s largest media polling firm, SurveyUSA."
