In an astonishing Leesburg Today article, supporters of Delegate Dick Black have decided that Black is pro-family. I really should not be surprised anymore that homophobic bigots and right-wing zealots are claiming to be in touch with Virginia's families.How is Dick Black out of touch with our families? Let me count the ways...
Dick Black is against adoption by homosexuals, citing quack sociology that insists that denying orphans adoptive parents who may be homosexual is better than letting them into a loving home. This bunk is thoroughly debunked by the American Psychological Association. There are many loving would-be parents who are gay, and many abusive heterosexual families. Big deal.
Dick Black sponsored a bill in 2004 to require fetal anesthesia in an abortion. I'm not a gynecologist, and neither are any members of the House of Delegates. Nevertheless, one Republican delegate asked "can't you just give them a little squirt of pain relief?" A little squirt? How does that get around to occuring? I haven't studied medicine, but apparently Dick Black and his anti-family acolytes pretend they have.
Dick Black believes contraceptives are "baby pesticides". That's right, "baby pesticides". He believes that contraceptives are "baby pesticides" when the accepted definition of contraception contravenes this. He shamelessly distributed plastic fetus dolls to General Assembly members, to supposedly remind them that they were "baby killers".
And finally, Dick Black believes in the criminilization of oral sex.
Dick Black is about as in touch with our family values as the Taliban.

Are you a homosexual? Dick Black is bigoted against you.
Have you been raped and need emergency contraception? Dick Black refuses to help you.
Are you a married couple? Dick Black wants the police to tell you what kind of sex you can have.
