An opportunity for massive change

We have before us a historic opportunity. In the 2006 and 08 elections progressive minded voters have the opportunity to truly turn the government into a party of the people once again. The current establishment for both the Democrats and the Republicans is collapsing in on itself. After years of corruption, cronyism, and pandering to self and corporate interests new voices, our voices, have begun to crack the shell of indecision that has plagued our government at all levels. The establishments fear this voice because it threatens the very foundation that props them up. Finally, the people are gaining a voice and saying +óGé¼+ôwe will not sit back and allow our elected officials to represent their own self interests over the interests of us.+óGé¼-¥ We have begun a massive transition that, arguably, was started in Virginia with the election of Mark Warner who held the office as it was intended and showed everyone what good people powered government could accomplish. This tradition has spread all across the US in places like Massachusetts where the Republican governor endorsed a bill to give access to basic health care insurance to every citizen of the state. It is also continuing into the Midwest and South were previously uncontested ideologically conservative legislative seats are now being challenged and will be won by progressives.
We have been given the opportunity to make substantive changes in the way our government operates. With our keyboards, voices, letters, editorials, protests, and support we will do it. We will make the changes necessary to keep Social Security working. As well, it will be us who fixes the tax code, brings health care to everyone, reforms political ethics, and puts forth solutions for environmental and energy problems. Not only will we be the ones to do this it will be done in a way that is satisfactory to everyone and actually solves a problem rather than funding it. Politicians will not answer to the corporate interests any longer because the people are gaining strength and forcing the powers that be to listen to us and do what is in our best interest. The future of our country is for us to decide. In the coming elections we have the power for change, to create a new establishment in which the parties answer to us and not their donors. We will not be stopped or ignored any longer. We are the future, we are progressives.

National Democratic Leadership Keeps Buckling (Teddy - 4/23/2006 4:11:34 PM)
I hear the Democratic national "leadership" are trying to create a single voice on such matters as Iraq and No Child Left Behind and Medicare Drug Part D... but they can't seem to being it off. In the absence of a coherent message, there is no guarantee the Republicans won't pull off another surprise like 2004. It behooves every Democratic candidate with any grey matter to come up with at least a couple of strong positions and/or legislative proposals they can run on.
I don't think the corruption thing alone will work, expecially as a few Democrats are now being dragged into the mess. Nor do I think "It's time for a Change" alone will do it without giving a few examples of what kind of change the Democrats have in mind. Nor do I think "Throw the Rascals Out!" is an edequate rallying cry, although it will do for starters. Same goes for constantly repeating "You Can't Trust Bush! You can't Trust Bush!"
