Two quick observations regarding the annual sign wars. Allen has put up a a dozen large 4x8s along the road way and has a few scattered yard signs and Miller has ZERO sign or people presence as of 10:00 a.m. For perspective, last year the Kaine and Kilgore campaigns put up a combined 55,000 yards signs and countless 4x8s throughout this small rural community. It looks as if Miller is taking the I can't win so I won't compete approach to this traditional annual Virginia political event. We all know what happens to those candidates who take that approach to the Iowa caucuses :). I won't reveal the Webb campaign's plan but it dwarfs everyone else to this point. I'll post more on that later.
The attached photo is from my camera phone and is an image of the road way leading into the Shad Planking. I'll provide more images later today and post some high resolution ones tonight. The beer trucks and more volunteers are arriving now so it's hard to predict the next time I'll post.
Update: 1:10 p.m.
You can't make this stuff up. Okay the Webb campaign has a giant Uhaul for our signs that were driving around. The pictures on the right are of the George Allen sign truck. Okay...decent effort...now check out the license plate...IOWA! In other news...the Kellam campaign now has a very nice presence. The Webb beer truck has arrived and our bluegrass band should be here any moment. In all we have 30+ volunteers at the moment putting up close to 10,000 yard signs. We are the only campaign with a major presence. Allen's presence is minimal, you can bet if this was an Iowa cornfield he would have had paid staffers here 3 days in advance :). No Miller presence at ALL.

Miller siting...the Miller campaign has made an appearance. See side photo, that is the total of their presence to this point. The other photo is of the Allen truck again, notice the Cowboy boots. |

Unfortunately, I'm sitting on a Professional Standards hearing panel for the Northern Virginia Associationof Realtors today, and can't be there to crawl among the snakes and grass and erect the signs. Or make a try at drinking beer (confession: that's one beverage that ah, is not my favorite, it's what I'll call graciously a rapid pass-through). Wish I could see all these folks from across the Commonwealth who obviously are sneaking out of work to show up and support Webb. Give 'em my regards. Or is this just an unacknowledge state holiday?
Webb will own Shadplanking! nice
Give 'em Hell!
Those should be fun.
We're stuck in our crummy offices.
I love the fact that Allen is using a truck from Iowa for his Virgina event. Makes you wonder where his Virginia trucks are.
Move the picture!
And this is one case where the picture is not worth a thousand words. It looks like Miller rolled up late and lame.
If someone can see that text, please copy it and e-mail it to me at jcwilmore@msn.com
Thanks!
Try again now.
Talk about rolling the dice!
Someone pointed out somewhere that Leslie Byrne didn't go last year but still won the primary. I say, don't forget that was a four-way race.
Miller's complete punt on Shad Planking might even be perceived by some as disrespectful to the rural voter.
How about this for a discussion topic: Miller's punt--smart strategy or disastrous blunder?
I disagree.
