McEachin Does NOT Support Harris Miller After All

Over at South of the James, Conaway Haskins has a scoop - a letter from Del. Donald McEachin reiterating his neutrality in the Webb-Miller race and directly contradicting earlier claims by the Miller camp that McEachin had endorsed Harris Miller.  As Conaways notes:

With McEachin in a neutral corner, along with other notable black legislators who have yet to come out for or aganist either man, Miller now has the support of less than half of the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus.

Very interesting.  Who will the Miller campaign claim has endorsed them next?

[UPDATE: Duh, I forgot this key quote from McEachin: "From my conversations with Secretary Webb, I am confident and reassured that he does not oppose affirmative action."  Exactly!  Thank you, Del. McEachin!]

[UPDATE #2:  I forgot to mention this before, but...THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU Don McEachin!]

You're on the ball today, Lowell n/t (Josh - 4/17/2006 1:53:50 PM)

As opposed to yesterday, and the day before, (Lowell - 4/17/2006 2:26:14 PM)
and the day before that, and... :)

From McEachin's press release:

“Contrary to published reports, I have not at this time endorsed either candidate. "

“From my conversations with Secretary Webb, I am confident and reassured that he does not oppose affirmative action."

I'll be interested to see how the Caucus comes together over Webb and Affirmative Action. The more people know about Webb the more they support him. With Miller the opposite applies.

If a large number of Legislators can be informed of the truth about Webb's position, I hope they will show him their support.

The time for divisive politics in America is done. That means the time for Republican control of Government at all levels is done. Likewise, Harris Miller's candidacy for the US Senate.

I thought this worth sharing here.

Webb needs to have more meetings (JennyE - 4/17/2006 2:03:24 PM)
on a one on one basis. The more people meet Webb and get to know him personally and hear from him, the more they like him. That's a big advantage Webb has over Miller.

Meetings (Ingrid - 4/17/2006 3:25:29 PM)
Jim is working on it.

Let's hope this bites Harris in the ass (DanG - 4/17/2006 2:04:39 PM)
Claiming he has support he doesn't?  Maybe that'll damage his chance of gathering those endorsements, and may be a good place for Webb to get some support.

Let's hope Miller CONFIRMS future endorsements... (Josh - 4/17/2006 2:08:26 PM)
And let's make sure we confirm them for him. ;)

Did Miller change his website? (JC - 4/17/2006 2:15:00 PM)
I could have swqorn that Miller had a press release claiming support of seven legislators; now it lists six--did he change his website?

It appears he did. (DanG - 4/17/2006 3:58:19 PM)
That's what great about the blogosphere, we can catch this crap early on and we don't let it go.

Wonderful news, but.. (Kathy Gerber - 4/17/2006 2:26:15 PM)
Please:

Don't forget to thank Delegate McEachin for making this press release!

Right you are Kathy. (Susan Mariner - 4/17/2006 3:02:59 PM)
We all need to show our support of Delegate McEachin for taking the time to learn more about James Webb and not not having allowed someone else to define what Webb thinks on Affirmative Action for him.  Great job Delegate McEachin.  Wish you were my Delegate. I'm about to write you and let you know that.
