George Allen won't commit to Virginia

George Allen wants Virginia to select him as United States Senator for the 2006-2012 term.  But the conventional wisdom has Allen running for the 2008 Presidency, meaning that he would have to start gunning for the Republican nomination pretty soon.  In fact, with his many trips to Iowa, South Carolina, and New Hampshire (early primary/caucus states for '08) and other spots as a Presidential hopeful, it looks like he's already starting running for the Presidential nomination.  So, many fear that Allen is, and would be, an absentee Senator.

So, what has Allen done to quell such worry?

Allen has been jetting around the country, too, exploring a possible presidential bid in 2008. In a recent trip to Iowa, Allen, 54, said he plans to raise $15 million for his re-election bid, but he would not commit to serving a full six-year term in the Senate if re-elected.

Amazing.  Would he at least commit to not abandoning Virginia immediately after Nov. 2006 for Iowa and New Hampshire?  Would that be too much to ask?

The bare minimum for any elected official is that they actually do the job he or she was elected to do.  Looks like George Allen won't even commit to the bare minimum.
