Open Letter to Constitutents of Republican Caucus

It is a wonder to me that no one has taken the House of Delegates Republican caucus to court for breach of promise, or whatever can be done when these Delegates lied to Northern Virginia and are, plainly, breaking their word. 


I refer, of course, to the fact that during the last budget session under Governor Warner, the final budget compromise specifically excluded transportation.  Remember the urgency with which the budget was finally passed, after an extended session?  Because of the huge deficits bequeathed to the Commonwealth by previous Governor Gilmore, our Triple A bond rating was in serious jeopardy, and the Assembly recognized at long last the necessity of raising taxes to overcome that deficit, and to find money for other urgent matters such as our legal obligation to begin the clean up of Chesapeake Bay.

Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads were PROMISED by the assembled Delegates and Senators that, if we would agree to have our taxes raised to help resolve Republican Governor Gilmore+óGé¼Gäós deficits and start work on other area+óGé¼Gäós problems, that next time would be our turn. +óGé¼+ôNext time,+óGé¼-¥ we were told, +óGé¼+ôwe will tackle the transportation problem and make sure you have a fully funded transportation program.+óGé¼-¥

Ha, ha, ha. They lied.

Suddenly, the Republican Delegates are saying their puny half-baked, underfunded mishmash of a Transportation Program is what was promised.  Suddenly the rest of the state that voted Republican has decided that transportation is a so-called regional problem and they see no reason to help us out as we recently helped them.  Remember Kilgore+óGé¼Gäós regional transportation taxing suggestions during the gubernatorial campaign? Welcome back+óGé¼GÇ¥ he lost the election principally on this very point, and now the Republicans are ignoring the voters and trying to cram his nasty little plan down our throats.

The solution, short of marching on Richmond? Bombard these recalcitrant Delegates with letters, e-mails, and phone calls, reminding them of their last session+óGé¼Gäós promise, and of their sacred honor as Virginia gentlemen which requires them to honor their promise.  And, if that doesn+óGé¼Gäót dent their hide, let+óGé¼Gäós see to it that they have primary opposition in their Republican primary, and a Democratic opponent in the next election who will, bluntly, kick their lying little behinds right out of the Assembly.

Governor Kaine needs help; attend his town meetings on transportation and express your displeasure with the House of Delegates, and your support of his Transportation Plan.

These no-tax afficionados, disgruntled they lost the election, intend to frustrate Tim Kaine at every point... remember their refusal to approve some of his appointments?

The assinine performance of the Republican House of Delegate not once but twice makes me wonder if they deliberately want to grind down any successful part of the Commonwealth, so that when every one is miserable, we will have no time or inclination to fight the new Republican elite. I know that sounds extreme, but what are we to think, when over and over the Republicans deliver the same tone deaf message?
