For those of you who aren't aware, Jay Fisette has been a member of the Arlington County Board since 1997, serving as chairman in 2001. Fisette is one of only a few openly gay elected officials in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Jay Fisette was first elected to the Arlington County Board in 1997 and was re-elected in 2001 and 2005. He is also the chairman of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments Board of Directors, a member of the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission and the Vice President of the Executive Committee of the Virginia Municipal League.
Jim Webb is a decorated Vietnam veteran, a former Secretary of the Navy, an award winning journalist and a best selling author. Since beginning his campaign for Senate less than a month ago, he has already secured a number of high-profile endorsements, including General Wesley Clark, former U.S. Senator Bob Kerrey, former Lt. It’s definitely a nice endorsement. Didn’t Sean Holihan just write, “Miller received the endorsement of the only openly gay official in the GA with Del. Ebbin.†Well, I guess that’s still the case, but I would point out that Ebbin was Fisette’s campaign manager in 1993.

Well, this will make for a more interesting discussion at the Equality Virginia Dinner this weekend. I’ll be there before the event gathering signatures with other volunteers, though I can’t attend the actual dinner. Jim will be there with Chuck Robb and Harris Miller.
