"Economic bombshell on Northern Virginia"

The lead story in the Washington Post today alarmingly talks about homeland security regulations forcing 50,000 employees out of Northern Virginia office space -- if not out of Virginia entirely. US Rep. James P. Moran says this is "probably the greatest threat to our economy since the real estate recession of the late 1980s." The article also points out that such a move could seriously worsen "sprawl" in the region and hurt "smart growth" efforts. All this does not sound good, to put it mildly.
So how serious is this story anyway? Is Virginia really about to lose 50,000 jobs (or even a fraction of that number)? And what next, should we be expecting to hear about plans to move the White House and Capitol to Nebraska for "security reasons?" More to the point of "RaisingKaine," I'd be very curious to hear what the candidates for Virginia Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, and House of Delegates have to say about all this: "the greatest threat to our economy since...the 1980s." Yikes!
