Press ReleaseJim Webb, Democratic candidate for United States Senate, received today the endorsement and full support of Ed Fendley, a member of the Arlington School Board.
?Jim Webb is a visionary leader who cares greatly about the success of our public school system,? said Fendley. ?Jim?s kids actually attended public schools in Virginia and he is committed to making them even better.?
Ed Fendley began his tenure on the School Board on Jan. 1, 2006, after many years of volunteer service to the school system and the Arlington community.
?Ed Fendley has been a great public servant and volunteer for Arlington schools,? said Webb. ?Dedicated people like Ed are one of the main reasons Arlington public schools are consistently ranked among the best in the nation. I greatly appreciate his support.?
Jim Webb is a decorated Vietnam veteran, a former Secretary of the Navy, an award winning journalist and a best selling author. Even though he announced his campaign for Senate less than a month ago, he has already secured a number of high-profile endorsements.
This week General Wesley Clark traveled to Arlington to officially endorse Jim Webb. General Clark is a retired four-star general, the former Supreme Allied Commander of NATO forces, and a 2004 Democratic Presidential contender.
?Jim is the kind of man that will put the interests of the people of this state first,? said Clark. ?He?ll take his fight to the floor of the Senate, he won?t back down from any challenge and he will focus on the job he is elected to do.?
Webb also has the support of former Democratic U.S. Senator Bob Kerrey ? who now serves as Webb?s Finance Chairman ? as well as former Democratic Congresswoman and Lt. Governor Candidate Leslie Byrne, former Democratic whip of the Virginia House of Delegates Chap Petersen, Arlington Country Treasurer Frank O?Leary and Arlington County Commissioner of Revenue Ingrid Morroy.
The Democratic primary to select the nominee for U.S. Senate takes place on June 13.
