Kilgore and McDonnell: Political Soulmates

Looks like the Kilgore family has decided to throw its support behind one of the two Republican candidates for Virginia Attorney General.  And a quality pick it is!  Here's what  Terry Kilgore, Jerry's twin brother, has to say about Robert Francis "Bob" McDonnell:

Bob McDonnell and I have fought together in the House of Delegates for over a decade to advance our shared conservative principles. Bob has the integrity, proven experience and conservative values we need to follow in Jerry Kilgore's footsteps as our next Attorney General.

Let's contrast this with what a few others have to say about McDonnell.  First, the Virginia Family Values PAC:

The idea of McDonnell being Virginia's attorney general should terrify Virginia families....When asked by a reporter if he had ever engaged in sodomy, McDonnell declared: "Not that I can recall." Confidential to McDonnell: Either you're a liar, or you're really, really pathetic. Which is it?...McDonnell is another RINO (Republican In Name Only) ? he wants to shrink government until it's small enough to fit into the keyhole of your bedroom door.  Electing McDonnell to attorney general would be a huge victory for anti-freedom, anti-privacy, and anti-family forces in Virginia.

Now, here's former Patrick County delegate Barnie Day's take on McDonnell:

Bless his heart.  Bob McDonnell, running for attorney general, the man who sits in judgment of our judges.  The man who cannot remember if he himself has ever engaged in sodomy.  Think about it.  He can?t remember.  He can?t recall.  Think about that one for a minute.

Folks, we can do better than this.  Virginia can do better.

Finally, here's Jim Spencer of the Hampton Roads Daily Press on McDonnell:

McDonnell, a man considering a run for Virginia attorney general, apparently has decided to warm up by appointing himself head of Virginia?s new Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice.

If you thought such overbearing minions of morality existed only among Afghan extremists, think again. Taliban Bob says Newport News Circuit Judge Verbena Askew may not be fit for reappointment to the bench if she ever violated the state?s crimes-against-nature law....

Taliban Bob, a graduate of Pat Robertson?s Regent University Law School and a darling of Robertson?s Christian Coalition, assumes that the harassment claim might mean that [Newport News Circuit Judge Verbena] Askew might be a lesbian. And if she is, McDonnell says, she may not be judicial material. Then, he defends his bigotry by hiding behind the crimes-against-nature law.

It is worth pointing out that Virginia's "crimes-against-nature" law applies to both heterosexuals and homosexuals, married and unmarried alike.  The law outright bans oral and anal sex regardless of the gender of the parties involved (and regardless of whether they are consenting adults in the privacy of their own bedrooms).  Hope everyone out there is being a law abiding citizen of the state whose slogan claims it is "for lovers" -- missionary position only, of course.

So what do the Kilgores like so much about "Taliban Bob" McDonnell?  Could it be his his 2002 vote in favor of raiding the Transportation Trust Fund for more than $300 million?  Or possibly his stance in favor of repealing the "restaurant ban," which prohibits someone from carrying concealed weapons into a restaurant?  Or maybe it's ducking of opponent Steve Baril's challenge to a series of debates across Virginia?

No wonder why the Kilgores are lining up behind Bob McDonnell -- are these guys soulmates or what?
