sid smithSid Smith is 95 years old and he is running for the Democratic nomination for the 10th District Seat in Texas. He wants to get Republican Michael McCaul out of office. It appears that McCaul may have benefited from DeLay's redistricting.
"He brags that he's the only candidate who had the pleasure of voting against President Herbert Hoover." (source: Yahoo News)

Smith began running foot races when in his 70's, he went to Las Vegas to celebrate his 95th birthday and he believes in abortion rights.
""I'm the oldest guy in this race," said Smith, joking that his Dec. 24 birthday makes him "one day older than Jesus." (source: Yahoo News)

That is what I call dedication to what you believe him! As Henry David Thoreau once said "None are so old as those who have outlived enthusiasm."

Its going to be an uphill fight to unseat incumbent McCaul (R) who won the district in 2004 with 79% of the vote on a $2,988,000 expenditure!!! (without a Dem Candidate).
It looks like redistricting actually made this District a little more Dem, given the drop off in Bush's vote:

2004 Presidential Vote
Bush (R)  177,555  (62%)
Kerry (D)  109,287  (38%)

  2000 Presidential Vote
Bush (R)  152,201  (67%)
Gore (D)  76,643  (33%)

This gerrymandered District stretches from Austin to Houston.
