What a story it has to tell Virginia Voters.
For Virginia voters, one fact should really stand out. Within a state and within a party, there are no two Senators further in thought and deed than John Warner and George Allen:
Sen. George Allen | Sen. John Warner
More Conservative than _% of the Senate | Conservative Ranking | More Conservative than _% of the Senate | Conservative Ranking
Economic | 80 | 20 | 56 | 44 |
Social | 77 | 21 | 53 | 47 |
Foreign | 74 | 26 | 65 | 35 |
Overall | 85.8 | 8 | 59.8 | 44 |
Thats a difference in "composite conservative" score of 26.0. Within the same state, and within the same party, that's the highest difference.
To give you an idea of where on the spectrum our Senators fall. John McCain stands adjacent to John Warner, in the National Journal's evaluation, while George Allen was only narrowly edged out by the likes of Georgia's Saxby Chambliss and Mississippi's Trent Lott.

There's lots of good reading here: enjoy.
