1) I have been authorized to say that Jim Webb is pro-choice. No elaboration on that for now, but to me this is a huge litmus test issue for Democrats. By the way, I have known Webb's position on this issue since December, which is one reason I decided to support him in the first place. (Personally, I am of the "safe, legal and rare" persuasion on this issue)
2) My sources tell me that Webb for Senate has hired a "kick ass campaign manager," according to the campaign. I can't reveal the name yet, but she's an awesome nuts and bolts campaign manager by all accounts.
3) I am hearing that Virginia Democratic Party Chair Richard Cranwell has moved from pro-Miller to neutral now that there is a primary contest. Reportedly, he did this in response to a call from James Webb. In addition, Mark Warner has indicated that he is neutral in the Senate race.
4) More bad news for Harris Miller. According to my sources, "word is out there that Harris Miller's lobbyist friends have told him that while he was a fine placeholder, there is now a serious candidate capable of beating George Allen in the race and Miller should get out because he is going to get beat."
The bottom line here is that James Webb is is gearing up big time and things are going to get interesting very shortly. After weeks of waiting, this whole race is going to change dramatically in just a few short days, as a true American hero and compelling national figure starts campaigning in earnest. I'm excited, because this means 2006 is going to be a fascinating campaign season here in Virginia. I'm also psyched at the prospect of replacing George Allen with a man who, by November, will be known far and wide as "George Allen's Worst Nightmare."
Go Webb!
