Steve first addressed the issue of gangs and gang related crime since the federal government began shifting responsibility for addressing this problem to state and local governments. He stated that we desperately need to have a regional (not simply a local) response to this problem, and to intervene with children before they become part of the gang culture. He also explained that he is running to be the leading consumer advocate for the citizens of this Commonwealth, and that a powerful consumer advocate who also understands business is critical to preserving consumer confidence in the business community. This helps everyone, as consumers who have faith in the business community keep our economy churning.
Finally, he stressed that we must poise our state to be ready to compete globally through the use of internet technology while protecting the privacy and intellectual property rights of businesses, academic institutions and private citizens. He plans to be our "technology Attorney General", which is critical in our changing world.
Local Democratic activists and leaders sang Steve's praises, and those in attendance were hugely impressed with Steve's well articulated and intelligent plans for Virginia.
