Jim Gilmore Thinks He's in a Shakespearean Tragedy

I nearly spit out my breakfast when I red the news clip in the morning paper.  It seems ole Jim Gilmore thinks he's in a Shakespearean play.  To wit, he said, "Feel not sad for me."  :-) (I kid thee not.)

He'll still work hard for conservative issues, he told activists at their Hot Springs confab.  (Aside: Feel, lo, the sadness for us in yonder light.)  He'll support candidates supporting anti-tax views

It wasn't meant to be, he consoled because he was, according to the Roanoke Times,

...swamped by an unpopular Republican White House, strong Democratic momentum for Barack Obama, a deep financial disparity to Warner, and an inability to gain attention for his campaign from a press focused on a transformative presidential race.

Of course, it had absolutely nothing to do with his incompetently run race, his poor grasp of complex issues, his on-act playbook  and his lackluster governorship.  Did I forget his tendency toward the dramatic?  (Aside: I see before me the irony, for yet I offer thee, m' lord, but many an overly dramatic line.)

(Aside: But yet, m' lord, this seemeth more a comedy.) All things considered, though, I haven't read much that funny in a really long time.    And, if this is any indicator, we are in for some more laughs.  Don't worry, Jim, we "feel not sad" for you.  And now, we bid thee adieu.

That is hilarious (aznew - 12/7/2008 5:12:44 PM)
Alas, poor Gilmore, I knew him well.

It would have been a greater tragedy... (ericy - 12/7/2008 5:49:00 PM)

if he had gotten elected.  I suppose one could have viewed it as a tragic comedy.

New Job (bertholland - 12/7/2008 8:35:53 PM)
This guy has become a professional candidate.  He lives on campaign money.

Maybe he'll run for Henrico County Dog Catcher next.

Gilmore is the poster child for inept Bushian Republicans.

No way ! I don't want his dirty hands touching any honorable and ethical dog (Tom Counts - 12/8/2008 4:59:48 PM)
Trash collector or "sanitary engineering" (cleaning of prison toilets in his case, maybe, but none of my taxpayer money to pay him. Only money from the RPVA coffers.

A scene from Gilmore's presidential campaign (Randy Klear - 12/7/2008 10:34:21 PM)
He tried to recruit a running mate a bit too early.

Gilmore is the Republican version of Leslie Byrne (notjohnsmosby - 12/8/2008 10:40:04 AM)
Jim cannot understand why he's so unpopular.  He squeaked in to the AG spot on Allen's coattails in 93, then got the Gov spot in 97 pretty much on the "no car tax" mantra.  Little else.  He proved to be largely inept as governor, not because he's not smart or didn't want to do well, but because he's massively delusional. I have a good friend like him, he cannot understand why someone doesn't think like him.

It doesn't compute for guys like Gilmore.  Put that on top of a personality that moves across a spectrum from boring/frumping to jackass, with little in between, and you get a guy with big ambition with no charisma, crappy interpersonal skills and the complete inability to understand what those who disagree with him believe.

I think that's the key for any great leader - being able to see multiple sides of an issue.  You can disagree 100% with some sides, but at least understand the other guys rational and why he believes in it.

Sorry, I can't agree with you (KathyinBlacksburg - 12/8/2008 1:25:34 PM)
on your comparing Gilmore to Leslie Byrne.  I think that's really unfair and considerable revisionism as well.  Not only is she a great Virginian, she's served in the Virginia House and Senate, served in Congress and ably served in the Clinton administration as the nation's consumer advocate.  Leslie has done a lot positive for Virginia.  Gilmore trainwrecked it.

I'll have to Agree (ModerateByNature - 12/13/2008 11:50:38 AM)
With the notion that Byrne just doesn't understand why people don't want to vote for her. Gilmore has a lot more of this than Byrne, but I think Gilmore should look in his rear view mirror, because J.Feder is coming up fast on the inside lane...

The comparison to Leslie strikes me as gratuitous.  As if we all should see exactly what was referenced in that comment?  Give me a break.   These people with the Not...such & such at the beginning of their user names are  red flags for not much to say, don't take me seriously.

Gilmore failed as Governor.  Now, his career as an elected official is probably over.  Leslie has contributed.  In any case, the post was not even about Leslie so this is sort of ridiculous.

I can't resist throwing in that I dislike George Allen a lot more than StumbleBumJim.

Thanks for the take on Jim's lame, self-pitying bow out Kathy.  Lets give them some more Shakespeare next November and it could really be curtains for them.
