It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like a Cabinet

Congratulations, Secretary Clinton! It appears that the next Secretary of State of the United States of America will be Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Between the official announcements and the substantively likely names reported by the media, it's beginning to look a lot like Obama is putting together an immensely talented Cabinet. Questions may arise as to how well some of these titans will work together. But Rahm Emanuel is not about to let the divisions that plagued the Powell/Rumsfeld relationship to develop, even between titans like potentially remaining Defense Secretary Robert Gates and likely Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (wOOT!).
Here's how the Obama Cabinet is beginning to shape up. These are reported names (*shows announced names):
Secretary of State - Hillary Clinton
Treasury Secretary - Timothy Geithner
Attorney General - Eric Holder
Health and Human Services - Tom Daschle
Secretary of Commerce - Bill Richardson
Homeland Security - Janet Napolitano
Director of OMB - Peter Orzag
Chief of Staff - Rahm Emanuel*
Senior Advisors - David Axlerod*, Pete Rouse*
White House Counsel - Greg Craig*
We can look forward to critical reports for Energy (?), Transportation (?), Education (Colin Powell?), Interior (Sweitzer?), Ag, EPA (RFK Jr.), and Defense (Gates, Hagel?), still, it looks like Obama is putting together a Cabinet capable of implementing the Mandate for Change. From economic recovery and stimulus, to the Green New Deal, to Universal Healthcare, to the Responsible Plan to End the War in Iraq, Obama is putting together a powerfully pragmatic team and, most importantly, a team which will be effective in delivering the change we need.

am hearing several other names (teacherken - 11/22/2008 8:11:52 AM)
possibly Congressman Raul Grijalva of Tucson for Interior, although when I last saw him on Thursday he was talking about other things.
Arne Duncan of Chicago, who is a basketball buddy of Obama as well as an advisor, as SecEd
Possibly Larry Summers as chair of the Council of Economic Advisors
We should know entire economic team on Monday, and national security team by the following Monday.
It is pretty amazing... (Josh - 11/22/2008 9:32:00 AM)
Obama is moving more quickly to name his team than any president in my lifetime. I don't think we've heard a single Cabinet appointment before Dec1, and at this rate we'll have them all by Christmas.
God bless us, every-one.
What about Labor? (Shenandoah Democrat - 11/22/2008 8:14:09 AM)
I don't know anybody who can name all the Cabinet Departments on the first try. Don't forget DOL! Dept. of Labor--I wouldn't mind Bob Reich back in that position!
That's what I'm sayin' (relawson - 11/22/2008 11:06:19 AM)
Labor has been ignored the last 8 years. Show us some love!
RFK Jr? (spotter - 11/22/2008 8:25:10 AM)
Somebody needs to do a background check on this guy before this bad idea goes any farther. How many convicted heroin addicts do you know who head major federal agencies? He should not even have a law license, and wouldn't if he were not a Kennedy.
Energy: (Rob - 11/22/2008 8:36:21 AM)
Lowell Feld!
That would be awesome. (relawson - 11/22/2008 11:07:45 AM)
In the shoulda-woulda-coulda dept... (ericy - 11/22/2008 9:54:17 AM)
My wife was joking that Eliot Spitzer would have been AG had he not had that high-priced hooker incident. The price was far higher than even he could have imagined...
Wall Street would have spritzed (Teddy - 11/22/2008 11:25:53 PM)
all over their striped suits if Spitzer had been named Atty Gen. Heh.
I think it was between him and John Edwards (relawson - 11/23/2008 10:41:58 AM)
And they both managed to get caught in compromising situations with women who weren't their wives.
I truly believe that man's greatest threat to himself is desire for women (other than his wife). And in the case of a few Republicans, it seems to be repressed homosexuality.
Sex has a long history of complicating politics.

Why did you use a picture of Hillary Clinton's wax figure?
An effort to co-opt the Change (Teddy - 11/23/2008 9:41:44 PM)
is seemingly being mounted. I refer to the repeated suggestions that there be closer co-operation between the Obama team and the old Bush team, especially the idea recently floated that Paulson be replaced right away (either actually or virtually) with Obama's man "because the situation is so dire we can't wait another two months;" and Bush and minions repeatedly commenting that any "reforms" or rescue operations must not disturb the system of free markets; and that the free trade treaty with Colombia be passed by Congress immediately; and Bush's condemnation of the Democratic Congress because they did not pass his plan to bail out the auto industry.
In other words, the Establishment is trying to smother change and taint the Obama team with the sins and mud of the current in-crowd, so their hands will be tied, and any future continued financial meltdown can be made to seem the Democrats' fault. I agree the situation is dire, thank you very much, but I hope Obama is not stampeded into falling for this effort to abort Change.
