Please click the graph to "embiggen," and note that Mark Warner outperformed the Democratic House candidate in every district except the 9th, where Rick Boucher was unopposed and kicked butt!  Also note that the largest dropoffs from Mark Warner's performance were in the 1st, 4th, 6th, 7th, and 10th CD's.

UPDATE: A graph of Obama's vote total, district by district, versus the Democratic House candidate in that district, is on the "flip."

Lowell, can you get a graph of the top swings in either direction for support of Obama versus Kerry?  That would be really interesting.

Also, big shoutout to the William & Mary YD's for helping to boost turnout in Williamsburg to an amazing 81.42%.

Also, let's give some love to the often neglected city of Petersburg, which went 88.56% for Obama.

And, finally, how about Obama besting McCain by 10 points in the home of Massive Resistance, Prince Edward County?  What wonderful times are these in Virginia's history.

I could do that, but... (Lowell - 11/6/2008 6:25:12 PM)
...how much is it worth to you? Ha. :) Seriously, I may take a shot at it, but in the meantime the New York Times already has a map that pretty much shows what happened.  In short, Obama improved on Kerry's performance throughout all parts of Virginia except for SWVA.

This is cool (Susan Mariner - 11/6/2008 6:43:54 PM)
We're still waiting for the absentee and provisionals to be tallied in Virginia Beach, but at this point, the results show that Obama outperformed Kerry in Virginia Beach by 16 points.  That's amazing.  It definitely made a difference in Glenn Nye's race.  Glenn will be a great congressman for the 2nd District, a moderate, pro-military (not pro-militarism) Democrat, which exactly reflects the district.  And he's young, so we can keep him in for a long time like we did with Democratic Congressman Owen Pickett before the redistricting debacle.

After we picked up two seats in the House of Delegates last year in Virginia Beach (Mathieson and Bouchard), my dream has been to wake up on November 5th knowing that I would be represented a Democratic President, two Democratic Senators and a Democrat in Congress.  My dream came true.  From Republicans in all of those offices to Democrats in all of those offices in just 2 years.  It's almost unbelievable.  I know the Republicans here are in total shock.

And you are a big part of it, of course (Lowell - 11/6/2008 9:30:48 PM)
For those who don't know Susan Mariner, she was one of the brightest stars of the Webb "ragtag army," and she's continued her involvement as part of Howard Dean's 50-state strategy.  I'm very happy to call Susan my friend. I'm even happier that this amazingly talented woman is on OUR side! :)

Ahhhh, Susan! (Lawyer Mama - 11/7/2008 12:28:06 AM)
Congratulations, babe!  YOU DID IT!

Now, if you can just help us in the 4th congressional district so I can live your dream too.  It's either that, or I'm going to have to move to Virginia Beach!

Still red in Augusta, unfortunately . . . (Cliff Garstang - 11/6/2008 11:21:05 PM)
but we're making progress: 6 pts. ahead of where Kerry was in '04. Also, it's worth noting that Sam Rasoul, although he didn't come close to winning the District (after all, he didn't have the support of DCCC, DPVA or anyone outside of the 6th District for that matter other than his own family) DID WIN in Harrisonburg, Roanoke and Lexington. That's something we can build on for 2010.

SWVA was an interesting breakdown this year... (Isaac Sarver - 11/7/2008 1:46:12 PM)
Curiously enough, if you look at the 2004 Kerry numbers... we did better than Kerry in Pulaski County, Giles County, Montgomery County, Radford City, Floyd County, Carroll County, Galax City, Grayson County, Patrick County, and Norton City. It may not be far Southwest, but it is part of the region.

I wish we could have done better, but even so this was a reasonably satisfying result.
