Not sure that this means much, but (aznew - 11/6/2008 10:19:41 AM)
T-D reporting this morning:

[Eric] Cantor said the GOP caucus is preparing to aid Goode in the recount.

I actually think Virgil is too smart to let a certifiable nincompoop like Cantor get involved, but we can always hope!

But the main point is that in the follow-up to a pathetic evening for the GOP, particularly in Virginia, look for them to pour all their frustration into pulling this out for Goode.

Also, the numbers are likely to change today, but not sure by how much (aznew - 11/6/2008 10:32:46 AM)
I'm hearing there may be a few pick-ups for Tom early as more provisionals are counted in Albemarle, but there is still some canvassing to go in Southside.

More Hope (cvillelib - 11/6/2008 10:41:53 AM)
Besides Albemarle, they will also complete the canvassing for the City of Charlottesville sometime today.  I know the poll I work in Charlottesville had quite a few provisional ballots that were clearly voting Tom's way.  One would also hope, statistically speaking, that Tom would pick up votes in both Albemarle and Charlottesville.

Exactly (aznew - 11/6/2008 11:28:23 AM)
This race is shaping as a narrow win for Tom Perriello.

Goode and his supporters won't take it lying down. Tom's campaign, I would guess, has the matter in about as good hands as it can.

What we can do is keep an eye on the information that is leaking out into the public about this race and battle every piece of misinformation that the GOP and Goode will throw to try to distort the truth.

They have their playbook from Florida 2000: Confuse the public, shop around for a friendly judge, and take the election away from the people by judicial fiat. The public confusion is essential for them, however, to maintain an impression that the public has not spoken, justifying the intervention of their partisan judges.

Voters have spoken in the Fifth District. We have elected Tom Perriello.

I can't say this enough: No matter who you voted for, Perriello or Goode, no matter whether you are a Democrat or a Republican, liberal of conservative, black or white, as Americans we all have a vested and critical interest in seeing the actual will of the voters reflected in the result.

People need to understand that. It is not about which candidate wins or loses. It is about the voters seeing their choice represent them in Washington.

Agreed (uva08 - 11/6/2008 12:28:21 PM)
We have reason to be optimistic.  We are now up by 52 according to the latest SBE update.  None of these updates include anything out of Charlottesville or Albemarle.  According to NBC29, there are 80 provisional ballots in Charlottesville alone.  There was a net of a 12 vote increase for Perriello in Charlottesville due to a tabulation error that does not yet show up on the SBE site.  I have also read that there are about 80 provisionals in Albemarle.  Say they only count half of those and the margins in provisionals match the margins in the respective counties.  Those calculations would give us about a net of 40 more votes.

As aznew said, I think the voters have spoken and now it is just time to make sure their voices are heard and that each and every rightful vote is protected.
