Is Virginia now a Mid-Atlantic State?

The old adage goes that Pennsylvania has Philadelphia on one side, Pittsburgh on the other and Alabama down the middle.  I think we can now say the same about Virginia.  Virginia has Northern Virginia in the North, the Richmond-Norfolk Corridor in the South, and the rest is Alabama.  We have changed so much in the 8-10 years I have gotten more interested in politics.  We have more transplants from all over the country coming to our Universities and settling.  Northern Virginia is receiving numerous emigrants from other states. I think just looking at the political make-up of our state, we've become more Delaware and less Georgia.
I mean cammon!!!

A Democratic Governor
2 Democratic Senators
A majority Democratic Congressional Delegation (Even BEFORE we got to redistricting)
A more moderate, less Republican electorate.

I think our culture in the Northern part of the state is definitely not Southern anymore for sure.  You have to get beyond Fredericksburg now to really enter the South.

So what do you think?  Has Virginia gone to become a more Mid-Atlantic State?  or no?

And don't worry, it doesn't mean we have to change our heritage, you can still be called a Southerner if you wish (I can still pull off the accent)

What do you think? (doctormatt06 - 11/5/2008 9:21:47 PM)
I think we're a lot closer to a Pennsylvania/Delaware than a Georgia/Tennessee
