RESULTS OPEN THREAD: PRESIDENT-ELECT OBAMA, SENATOR-ELECT WARNER, VIRGINIA GOES BLUE!

By: Rob
Published On: 11/4/2008 8:06:57 PM

Here we go!

7:05 p.m.  Congratulations Senator-Elect Warner!

7:09 p.m.  Wolf just teleported Jessica Yellin into the Election Center.  I'm not sure what this is all about.

7:18 p.m.  Obama is way to close for comfort for McCain right now in Indiana.  He's only down 51-48% without the big urban or student areas coming in.

7:20 p.m.  Right now, way to early to bother reporting numbers in Virginia.  Only four rural counties reporting so far plus Chesterfield (exurb Richmond).

7:25 p.m.  North Carolina too close and Ohio too early to call as their polls close.

7:33 p.m.  Virginia: McCain leads 57-42% with 4% reporting.  Still too early.

8:00 p.m.  Obama wins Penna and NH.  McCain's "all in" strategy in PA goes poof.  Obama is holding the Kerry states, he just needs to win some Bush states now.

8:03 p.m.  Same margin (57-43%) with 22% reporting.  Nothing yet from NOVA, Tidewater, or Richmond.

8:15 p.m.  MAJOR UPDATE: Chesterfield is 99% in, and McCain has won 54-46.  Why is that a big deal?  Bush beat Kerry there 63-37.  Obama beat Kerry's number by 2,000, but over 20,000 Bush voters didn't show up for McCain.

8:25 p.m.  Sen-Elect Kay Hagan!  She joins Warner and Jeanne Shaheen as new Democrats in the Senate.

8:33 p.m.  NOVA and Tidewater starting to report.  Still early right now with single digits reporting in many precincts.  Richmond still nothing.

8:37 p.m.  An addendum to my Chesterfield update.  The remaining 1% is the absentee vote, so I was premature in drawing my comparison.  But does McCain have a 20,000 vote margin in the absentee vote?  We'll see.

9:00 p.m.  Obama takes Minny, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Too close to call in Arizona!  Too early (unfortunately) in New Mexico.

9:07 p.m.  Getting tight.  52-47% for McCain.  Still under 20% reporting in most of NOVA.  Richmond is coming in now with 72% reporting.

9:25 p.m.  NBC CALLS OHIO FOR OBAMA.

9:27 p.m.  CNN calls it for the xenophobe in VA-05.

9:38 p.m.  NM for Obama.  Sen-Elect Udall too.

9:55 p.m.  Obama takes the lead in Virginia.  About 7000+ votes now.

10:00 p.m.  Obama flips Iowa.

10:08 p.m.  Chris Shays loses, and the GOP has lost its last House seat in New England.

10:10 p.m.  Wolf crushing Judy, 62-36% with 57% reporting.  Connolly up 51-47% with 30% reporting.  Nye leading Drake late, 51-49% with 63% reporting!

10:27 p.m.  Did CNN call it too early for Rep. MZM?  Periello is up 700 votes with 96% remainig, but the 4% are Goode favorites.  Are there 700 votes there for Virgil?  Probably, but we'll see.

10:33 p.m.  Just noticed that CNN un-called it for Goode.  If the Dems take three House seats, a Senate seat, and the Presidential electors, we're talking tidal wave folks.

10:39 p.m.  President-Elect Obama.  Doesn't that sound good?  He's up 51-49% in Virginia with NOVA, Richmond, Suffolk and Norfolk still counting.  Looks good folks.

10:43 p.m.  Chuck Todd: Obama winning in the first county in "Real Virginia," i.e., Price William.   Shut up Todd.

10:52 p.m.  Gerry opening up a lead, 53-45% with 64% reporting.  Nye up 51-49% with 69% reporting (about 2800 votes). Perriello still up about 700 votes with 97% reporting.

10:57 p.m.  Nets starting to call Virginia for Obama.  Congrats everyone.  We're a blue state now!

11:00 p.m.  President-Elect Obama!

11:14 p.m. Congrats Rep-Elect Connolly!  Virginia flips a House seats.  Still waiting on two others.

11:16 p.m.  Obama takes Colorado and Florida.

12:07 a.m.  Perriello clinging to a 142 vote lead.  Are there 143 votes left for Virgil in those two remaining districts?  Regardless, we're heading to  a recount on this one.

12:21 a.m.  Either I read something wrong or Perriello just got a big bump.  Regardless, he's up a little over 2000 votes.  I think he's got this one in the bag.  And if Virgil Goode goes down, it'll be a cherry on top of a great day!

Virginia Exits (uva08 - 11/4/2008 8:09:37 PM)
Look fantastic for us: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25...

Yep. (Nichole - 11/4/2008 8:24:26 PM)
They look good but we'll see how that translates to real votes this year.

Markos: Virginia is OURS (Chris Guy - 11/4/2008 8:14:55 PM)
for Warner as well as Obama.

We'll see.

Not sure what he's talking about. (Rob - 11/4/2008 8:15:22 PM)
And I hope he didn't jinx us.

Doug Wilder (IBelieveInHenryHowell - 11/4/2008 8:19:15 PM)
Just watched Wilder on MSNBC. He seems very relaxed about the vote in VA.

Agreed. (Nichole - 11/4/2008 8:23:32 PM)
He did. The exit polls look good.

Reston (NP - 11/4/2008 8:36:31 PM)
I had the impression the two kids handing out sample ballots for the republicans were being paid.  They didn't appear to have their hearts in the activity but they were dedicated just the same.  We had an abundance of volunteers all over the place.  An ouch for them.

Hrm (Nichole - 11/4/2008 8:39:08 PM)
I wouldn't be surprised. Which is sad :( I keep freaking when I see VA votes now but I have to remember what has come in!

The Warner projection came very quick (relawson - 11/4/2008 8:42:55 PM)
When Webb was running I had to stay up until the wee hours of the morning to find out.

Let's hope that we can project Obama's victory early tonight.

I hope! (Nichole - 11/4/2008 8:58:51 PM)
Yeah we were unsure of the Webb win for awhile. I hope tonight is not that way. However, I will take a win - even a close one.

Upset in Indiana? (relawson - 11/4/2008 8:37:39 PM)
That wasn't in my win column, but Obama seems to be doing well there in very conservative counties.

Yes -- this is very bad for McCain (Rob - 11/4/2008 8:39:23 PM)
Lake County and Indy have yet to report, and Obama is keeping it close.

Exit polls and early voting (uva08 - 11/4/2008 8:41:18 PM)
Does anyone know if these exit polls include early voter results or not?  I would assume they would take that into consideration.

IN (uva08 - 11/4/2008 8:48:40 PM)
Guys, I think we have Indiania.  I am comparing some of the counties that are already in and comparing them to 2004.  One example is Cass County.  Cass voted 68 percent for Bush.  This year it is only 53 percent McCain.

Numbers for beth el (pvogel - 11/4/2008 8:48:25 PM)
1472 obama{Moran got 1474!)
780 Mccain

1655 for Warner

LOOKS LIKE no ticket spliting from Obama
and   republicans split for warner

SBE (Greg - 11/4/2008 8:53:40 PM)
Anyone have a link for a text version of the SBE site? I'm on a very weak wi-fi connection at a party, can't get it to load...

sorry, just found it (Greg - 11/4/2008 8:56:58 PM)
having withdrawal symptoms

Yep (Kindler - 11/4/2008 8:58:59 PM)
Try this

thanks!!! (Greg - 11/4/2008 9:06:34 PM)
we haave data!

VA exit polls (Kindler - 11/4/2008 8:55:45 PM)
From Hotline:

"In the Hotline battleground of VA, exit polls show:
- Obama leading men by 6% and women by 12%"

Ummm...what genders does that leave for McCain?

:) (Nichole - 11/4/2008 8:57:46 PM)
Don't ask!

I wonder how the neutered are voting (relawson - 11/4/2008 9:00:06 PM)
That's the real battleground ;-)

Transgender. Duh. (hallcr3 - 11/4/2008 9:00:41 PM)

If Obama takes Florida it's over for McCain (relawson - 11/4/2008 8:58:50 PM)
I am hoping they call in in a couple of minutes...

Are precinct results updated throughout the night? (hallcr3 - 11/4/2008 8:59:38 PM)
I'm interested in how my neighborhood voted. Is the SBE providing those as they come in or do I have to wait until a complete breakdown is published?

try this, (Nichole - 11/4/2008 9:08:39 PM)
sbe site broken down by district and on down towards voting place
https://www.voterinfo.sbe.virg...

PA just called for Obama! (Pain - 11/4/2008 9:01:13 PM)

CNN hasn't called it yet (relawson - 11/4/2008 9:02:05 PM)
...

In case I forget to post it (Pain - 11/4/2008 9:05:10 PM)

My results I will be posting tonight are from NBC.

CNN just bashed NBC (hallcr3 - 11/4/2008 9:06:05 PM)

I think NBC took a beating in 2000 (Pain - 11/4/2008 9:09:37 PM)

So, I tend to think they aren't going to call something unless they are super-confident in the data.

CNN being "extra conservative" (relawson - 11/4/2008 9:06:39 PM)
The PA votes aren't in but exit polls must be very strong for Obama for NPR/NBC to call it.

YES (Nichole - 11/4/2008 9:06:42 PM)
I hope this holds. It needs to.

NPR just called PA and NH for Obama! (Kindler - 11/4/2008 9:02:42 PM)

If that's the case, I think we can pack it in early ;-) (relawson - 11/4/2008 9:04:22 PM)

Pennsylvania (IBelieveInHenryHowell - 11/4/2008 9:03:31 PM)
NBC Calls PA for Obama!

Obama killing McCain in Orlando and much of I-4 corridor (relawson - 11/4/2008 9:09:59 PM)
And it looks like my county of Polk County.  Unreal - this county is solid Republican.  Well, at least it use to be.

I live on the I-4 corridor and proud to say that Democrats seem to be turning it blue.

Pennsylvania called? (Dan - 11/4/2008 9:14:03 PM)
Really?  There is barely any of the vote in!  This is odd, since they should wait until some of the vote comes in.  I am excited, but I'd love to see some actual numbers come in.  We don't want another Florida 2000.  I am still cautiously optimistic.  I like what I see so far.

ABC also calling PA and NH for Obama (Kindler - 11/4/2008 9:14:37 PM)
The (Grand Old) Party's over!

What happen Va ? (crackerjacks - 11/4/2008 9:22:22 PM)
is Obama Going to take Va or what?

Breath in....Breath out. (Pain - 11/4/2008 9:29:05 PM)

NoVA hasn't reported yet.

Tutu's vote counts! (relawson - 11/4/2008 9:22:25 PM)
There is a bright side to the sad ending for Obama's grandmother.  Her absentee ballot will count according to officials in Honolulu.

I lived 5 years in Honolulu - and family is probably the most important part of the culture there.  Anyone who doesn't think Obama is a strong family man doesn't understand the culture of Hawaii.

Open Polls (norman swingvoter - 11/4/2008 9:25:57 PM)
Does anyone know if people are still voting in Virginia due to lines at 7PM?

I am sure they are. (crackerjacks - 11/4/2008 9:28:53 PM)
I am sure they are.

The cases were reported in the city of Richmond, Fairfax County and Fauquier County, according to Nancy Rodrigues, Virginia's executive secretary of the Board of Elections.

In once case she said the "over presentation of law enforcement" at one polling location was called in. In another case someone was playing a recording of right-wing radio host Rush Limbaugh loud enough to violate the no campaigning within 300 feet of a voting location.

Also I heard earlier lines were 4 to 7 hours waiting time so from 7 to at least 2am if people don;t leave the lines!

Florida Exit Polls (relawson - 11/4/2008 9:29:09 PM)
Male
  Obama:49
  McCain:49
Female
  Obama:50
  McCain:48

Looks like the women may prevail here in Florida, assuming the votes turn out the same as exit polls.  This one may be a nail-biter.

But, it will not matter if PA and VA go to Obama.  I hope we gain some seats in the house at least.

NPR calls Senate seats for Jeanne Shaheen and Kay Hagan (Kindler - 11/4/2008 9:29:41 PM)
Are we having fun yet?

Hagan (IBelieveInHenryHowell - 11/4/2008 9:31:30 PM)
CBS calls NC for Hagan.

Elizabeth Dole goes down in North Carolina (Rebecca - 11/4/2008 9:31:58 PM)

Bob Dole can pop the Viagra (relawson - 11/4/2008 9:33:36 PM)
Eliabeth is coming home ;-)

ED = Electile Dysfunction (Kindler - 11/4/2008 9:35:31 PM)

lol (relawson - 11/4/2008 9:36:39 PM)
We gave her the "other" blue pill.  Democrat blue.

Yeah Baby!!, He and Liddy will have plenty of time now!!!! (McGuffin - 11/4/2008 9:52:14 PM)

Liddy Dole was a cover for the American Red Cross (Andrea Chamblee - 11/4/2008 11:06:00 PM)
When they refused to scren donors for HIV. Instead of instituting screening, ARC hired the wife of a powerful Senator. The ARC heads in Japan, Germany, and Canada went to jail. She kept the Americans out of prison.

Time to call VA. (cdgoin - 11/4/2008 9:35:02 PM)
As you pointed out Chesterfield was much tighter than in 04, King And Queen and a number of rural counties are going Obama.. counties that went for Allen..

I think thats a call for this state.. because I can only assume NOVA, Richmond and Tidewater will break Obama large.

So let me be the first to call it.. Virginia is BLUE... !! OBAMA WINS Virginia !!!

Charles

hold on ... (Rob - 11/4/2008 9:44:44 PM)
See my latest update.

Thanks Rob (faithfull - 11/4/2008 9:36:24 PM)
Well placed.

Don't know if we got enough in Fairfax (FredFred - 11/4/2008 9:37:27 PM)
4 precincts in Fairfax were in about 5 minutes ago, I compared them to 2004.

#113 Oak Hill
  2008:  Obama 761 - McCain 684  (52.15% - 46.88%)
  2004:  Kerry 789 - Bush 751 (50.5% - 48.1%)
  Improvement: 2.87%

#120 Sideburn
  2008:  Obama 1047 - McCain 1167 (46.95% - 52.33%)
  2004:  Kerry  950 - Bush 1308 (41.7% - 57.4%)
  Improvement: 10.32%

#218 Vienna #6
  2008:  Obama 877 - McCain 490 (63.45% - 35.45%)
  2004:  Kerry 824 - Bush 544 (59.5% - 39.2%)
  Improvement: 7.7%

#726 Magarity
  2008:  Obama 1446 - McCain 790 (63.92% - 34.92%)
  2004:  Kerry 1276 - Bush 857 (59.2% - 39.7)
  Improvement: 9.5%

Bush beat Kerry by 9 - so we need to have an improvement of 10% across the board and we're just not seeing that with the first four precincts reported in.

Note - I believe the in person absentees will get counted in their own "precinct" so if those went very heavily for Obama they could provide a margin.

Now "too close to call" (FredFred - 11/4/2008 9:40:01 PM)
moved from "too early to call" to "too close to call."

Some precincts will be more than 10% (Rob - 11/4/2008 9:42:52 PM)
And absentees are that last 1% that hasn't been counted yet.

Yes.. Absentees are the 1% (cdgoin - 11/4/2008 9:44:00 PM)
We saw this in the Webb campaign while watching the polls. THe last things to post are the absentees and early votes. Those account for that irritating 1-3% of the vote. They have thier own "precinct" in some larger districts. In some they are added to the precinct they were from "later" (which is what was the hold up on the Webb race.. so if Chesterfield is any indication a full 20-30% of the vote is absentee which is why the voting day number looks lower than last time.

Trust me Virginia iBlue.. we can all relax now.. Its not going to be even as close as the Webb race.. I predict Obama by a full 3%.

Charles

CNN calling PA for Obama now (relawson - 11/4/2008 9:40:13 PM)
Looks like it is over for McCain.  All roads are closed, I believe.

Red State (IBelieveInHenryHowell - 11/4/2008 9:41:47 PM)
All I'm waitng for is to see a red state called for Obama

sigh. (Nichole - 11/4/2008 9:45:08 PM)
me too.

A red state has been called Virginia.. (cdgoin - 11/4/2008 9:46:16 PM)
OK it was by me.. but in 3 election cycles of watching the numbers return I havent been wrong yet. :) BTW I called it for Webb about an hour before Webb took the stage..

Now if someone would pay me for my insight ;)

Charles

Hope (IBelieveInHenryHowell - 11/4/2008 9:49:52 PM)
that you are right.

oh no! (Nichole - 11/4/2008 9:55:51 PM)
charles, don't make me too excited and then let me down!!!!

Could Georgia go Obama??? (relawson - 11/4/2008 9:44:51 PM)
My birthplace....

Obama/McCain/Barr/Pct of total
Male 41 56 3 46
Female 54 44 1 54

Men are going heavy for McCain, with a 15% lead in exit polls.  BUT women are going heavy Obama with a 10% lead.  If it were 50/50 men and women it would be an easy McCain win.  BUT women outnumber men by 8%.

Georgia may be a close one.

MSNBC is calling GA for McCain (Kindler - 11/4/2008 9:54:46 PM)

Darn MSNBC (relawson - 11/4/2008 9:56:24 PM)
I still think it will be close.

Check this link (cdgoin - 11/4/2008 9:51:00 PM)
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25...

Note how much is blue.. I can tell you it wasnt this blue in 06'... not at this point in the returns anyway.

I am very curious about SC.. Its looks interesting.. They must know somethign though tehy called it McCain so early. But I wonder if the african american vote could surprise everyone an dhave it turn SC at the last minute when the bigger towns come in..

*grabs my inhaler* (DSD - 11/4/2008 9:51:01 PM)
https://www.voterinfo.sbe.virg...

not my district but (DSD - 11/4/2008 9:53:16 PM)
at least it looks like Nye is thumping on thelma D.

VA-5 (uva08 - 11/4/2008 9:59:50 PM)
Look at how many McCain-Perriello supporters there are.  We may pull this one off.

CNN not calling Arizona (relawson - 11/4/2008 10:01:15 PM)
lol.  Poor McCain.  That should have been an easy one for him.

Crap! We just lost North Dakota! (Pain - 11/4/2008 10:03:08 PM)
 ;)

darn! (Nichole - 11/4/2008 10:05:15 PM)
oh man. that is bad.

Ya think Obama should concede? (relawson - 11/4/2008 10:05:45 PM)
lol

Udall and Shaheen (relawson - 11/4/2008 10:05:04 PM)
+2 more Senators.  Yay democracy!

KY-Sen really close (Kindler - 11/4/2008 10:09:08 PM)
With 61% of the vote in, it's McConnell 51%, Lunsford 49%.  Yowza!

This Is Good If I Am Reading Correctly (norman swingvoter - 11/4/2008 10:13:02 PM)
If I am reading the elections website correctly, there are NO results in yet for the City of Richmond (District 7).  I would bet money it goes for Obama so this will hopefully make up some ground.

Faux News calls NM for Obama! (Kindler - 11/4/2008 10:14:12 PM)

What's going on while we aren't looking? (relawson - 11/4/2008 10:18:01 PM)
Hamas says Israeli strikes kill six gunmen
Reuters UK - 1 hour ago
By Nidal al-Mughrabi GAZA (Reuters) - Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip killed five gunmen and a ground raid killed a militant on Tuesday, Palestinian medics said, in the first armed clash in Gaza since a cease-fire took hold there in June.

I'll bet alot of scores will be settled tonight and tomorrow in a handful of countries.

NoVA (Pain - 11/4/2008 10:21:32 PM)
Prince William, with 50% of votes in has Obama up 57-41.

Manassas City has Obama up 8, with 83% reporting.

Arlington hasn't reported yet.

Winchester has Obama up 4 with 80% reporting.

This is all but over in VA for McCain  :)

Western PWC hasn't reported (TurnPWBlue - 11/4/2008 10:23:40 PM)
Conservative precincts in western PWC are still quiet.  The big Obama precincts are in the more liberal eastern end of the county.

Perriello closing in!!!! (DSD - 11/4/2008 10:21:54 PM)
Woo ha!

Virginia SBE site is crapping out though. :-(

VA-05 a nail-biter (Kindler - 11/4/2008 10:22:14 PM)
Basically 50-50 with 86% reporting -- with Perriello ahead of Goode!

MSNBC CALLS OHIO (cdgoin - 11/4/2008 10:23:08 PM)
MSNBC CALLED OHIO !!

CNN is about to call it, I think (relawson - 11/4/2008 10:25:27 PM)
...

CNN called Ohio (relawson - 11/4/2008 10:34:57 PM)
I think we can call him "President Elect Obama" now.  I'm not waiting for 270.

Ohio is BLUE! (Pain - 11/4/2008 10:23:46 PM)

VA is next.

Feder is losing in the 10th :(

Jerry C in the 11th is up a few points, but it's closer than I expected.

Faux calls OH for Obama!!! (Kindler - 11/4/2008 10:24:16 PM)
What has gotten into the folks at Fox?

So did MSNBC-but that's not as whack as Fox! (Andrea Chamblee - 11/4/2008 10:26:11 PM)
Joe Scarborough says there is no way McCain can win...

NPR calling OH for Obama too! (Kindler - 11/4/2008 10:27:03 PM)

as of 9:15 (DSD - 11/4/2008 10:27:10 PM)
Tom S. P. Perriello 137,236

Virgil H. Goode, Jr. 137,012

Louisianna for McCain (relawson - 11/4/2008 10:27:23 PM)
I guess they like to be punished.  8 years of Bush and Katrina ... and they want more.

Meanwhile at the McCain party (relawson - 11/4/2008 10:40:20 PM)
Lousy music and ignoring the mandate of change (they turned off the news).

Too late for my family in VA's Motor-Voter (Andrea Chamblee - 11/4/2008 10:40:26 PM)
My nephew put off getting his driver's license until he was 18.  But at least when he reached that milestone, he thought he didn't have to make a second trip to get registered to vote.  He checked the box at the top of the form that said:
"INFORMATION FOR THE STATE BOARD OF ELECTIONS:  Do you want to apply to register to vote or change your voter registration address?"

As with other checkboxes on the form, "Are you a citizen of the US," and "would like to be an organ, eye and tissue donor," no other action is requested or needed to put the request into effect.  He was so confident that he didn't doublecheck his voter registration. When he arrived at the polls at 6 am today he got an even worse wake-up call: checking the box did NOT register him to vote.

What's up with that?

don't rely on DMV (Bobbi - 11/4/2008 10:47:39 PM)
Registering to vote at the DMV is a hit-or-miss proposition. In my experience, too many people who register there never make it onto the voter lists. There's definitely a disconnect between DMV and SBE/local registrars. Sorry your nephew fell into that abyss.

Another 5 EV for Obama! (McGuffin - 11/4/2008 10:40:57 PM)
MSNBC just called New Mexico for Obama!!!

What's happening to Virginia? (jlmccreery - 11/4/2008 10:44:52 PM)
I know, I know, it's like the nailbiters with Kaine and Webb. But give me some encouragement here.

John in Yokohama.

How is Japan? Was in Hokkaido this summer for 2 weeks (relawson - 11/4/2008 10:46:31 PM)

Ah... I called VA an hour ago.. (cdgoin - 11/4/2008 10:52:18 PM)
Trust me.. 26% to go to report and we are down by 2,000 votes this will be no nail biter. Once Fairfax and Arlington report 90% or better.. Obama by 3%.

Charles

I'm not sweating VA either (relawson - 11/4/2008 10:55:00 PM)
It will go Obama once their done counting all the redneck, racist, and old votes.  Shut up little Murtha!  ;-)

that sucks (DSD - 11/4/2008 10:46:03 PM)
Andrea, did he still fill out a contentious ballot or whatever its called?

Thanks for asking but no provisional ballot was offered. (Andrea Chamblee - 11/4/2008 10:55:27 PM)
I think they are primarily offered to registered voters who have been determined as ineligible rather than voters who never registered. In some FAQs, I see, "If the voter is properly registered, the ballot will be counted. If not, it will be disqualified."

This way of "motor voting" seems to lull young voters into complacency, believing they are registered.  There should be no checkbox at all rather than one that produces no results.

Virginia status (Rebecca - 11/4/2008 10:51:55 PM)
At present a small percentage of Fairfax County has reported. Voting is going 3 to 2 for Obama. I think a fraction of Arlington County has reported. They are going 2 to 1 for Obama.

Obama is catching McCain. The last time I checked there were only about 4000 votes between them.

Obama LEADS Virginia !!!! (cdgoin - 11/4/2008 10:54:36 PM)
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/20...

Told ya.. !

:)

Not according to the SBE site... (TurnPWBlue - 11/4/2008 10:58:27 PM)
SBE still has McCain up by about 6,000 votes with 77% reporting.

i am seeing that too.. (Nichole - 11/4/2008 11:00:37 PM)
which would be more updated? i would assume sbe would be.

SBE just updated (TurnPWBlue - 11/4/2008 11:10:32 PM)
Obama is ahead.

SBE website slower (cdgoin - 11/4/2008 11:11:56 PM)
You would think.. but for some reason not.

I think CNN and the main news agencies have someone in the SBE getting the numbers as the come in and calling the news agencies. Which have a ton of people on the computer. The SBE on the other hand problably inputs them slower. Seems to be about 10 minute lag..

BTW with 95% reporting - Perriello up by 700 votes.. !! Opps.. called a little too early?

BTW Virginia

85% reporting Obama up by 30,000 votes.. the 15% is primarily Fairfax..

Will CNN and MSNBC please finally call this ?

Charles

Prince William is voting for Obama too (TurnPWBlue - 11/4/2008 11:15:38 PM)
With 64 of 73 precincts reporting, Obama is up by 13,000 or so votes in PWC.  PWC was +7 for Bush four years ago.

Here Is One Thing (norman swingvoter - 11/4/2008 11:04:13 PM)
They still have nothing posted for The City of Richmond so that should help.

Liddy Dole loses! Is Saxby Chambliss next? (Andrea Chamblee - 11/4/2008 11:02:32 PM)
The Dems in Georgia (DeKalb) are often the last to report.

I'm going to take a moment to admit how wrong I have been (relawson - 11/4/2008 11:05:40 PM)
Only a few people will be reading this, so now is a good time ;-)

I supported John Edwards in the primaries because I believed that this nation would not elect a minority, and I believed that Edwards more experience in national politics.

What we know now is that Americans WILL elect a minority.  Americans care about change more than experience.  And had Edwards been the nominee, that really big skeleton would have come out of the closet.

So I was wrong.  You guys who supported Obama from the start - good pick.  Well done.  This is a great time for America.  In this case, I am happy that I was wrong.

Well, Edwards made poverty in the US a priority (Andrea Chamblee - 11/4/2008 11:19:41 PM)
Too bad that issue went down with him. Let's do whatever necessary to keep that issue high.  If we address the needs of the poor wherever they exist, they become customers, driving improvements in the economy.

I agree (relawson - 11/4/2008 11:20:42 PM)
We lost a strong advocate for the poor and the working class.

NBC's Kelly O'Donnell just said McCain may speak in about an hour (LoudounLad - 11/4/2008 11:08:52 PM)
Conceding right after the three West Coast state polls close, maybe? With Obama already at 200 projected EVs, he could lock it up right then and there.

Any bets on Al Franken? (relawson - 11/4/2008 11:09:54 PM)

up for now (Nichole - 11/4/2008 11:18:21 PM)
only 8 percent in but he is up
i hope he wins.

86% - UP 28,300 votes (cdgoin - 11/4/2008 11:15:11 PM)
CNN and MSNBC should call this already..

I think they aren't because it would basically be calling the election before the polls close in the West.

Charles

It's looking like Nye is going to pull this out... (Greg - 11/4/2008 11:16:10 PM)
I haven't looked at the precinct by precinct for Virginia Beach city, but it's pulling in his direction.

Its also looking like a win for Perriello (cdgoin - 11/4/2008 11:25:23 PM)
If the absentee voting went like the other 95% he should win. He is up by 850 right now.

CNN PULLS Perriello predicition (cdgoin - 11/4/2008 11:26:49 PM)
CNN just pulled the project winner tag off the Goode/Perriello race..

I hope so it is too close!

Check out Comedy Central - no one calls a race like them (Andrea Chamblee - 11/4/2008 11:24:17 PM)
They called the NJ race by throwing the McCain photo in the trunk of a passing black sedan.

Tom Feeney going down in Florida!!!!! (Rebecca - 11/4/2008 11:46:58 PM)
When Clint Cutis worked for Wang Tom Feeney asked him to write vote rigging software to rig an election in Florida. Now Feeney is going down down down!!!!!!!

Hopefully he joins Abramoff soon (relawson - 11/4/2008 11:51:49 PM)

FAUX News calls Virginia for Obama (relawson - 11/4/2008 11:53:43 PM)
Congrats

Fox and AP have now called Virginia for Obama (LoudounLad - 11/4/2008 11:55:39 PM)

Jon Stewart/Comedy Central called Va. blue! (Bobbi - 11/4/2008 11:59:04 PM)
Woot!

Hallelujah (IBelieveInHenryHowell - 11/4/2008 11:56:47 PM)
Finally in my adult lifetime, cast my first vote for McGovern in 72. Democrats carry VA!!!!!

FINALLY a media source calls VA.. (cdgoin - 11/4/2008 11:58:46 PM)
OK it was comedy central.. but Jon Stewart Calls VA for Obama !

amazing (Nichole - 11/4/2008 11:59:45 PM)
I am shock at what has happened in VA. It's one thing to think it - it's another for it to happen.

It's a new day in the Old Dominion (Kindler - 11/5/2008 12:00:17 AM)
G'night, y'all!!!!

Not so fast (Rebecca - 11/5/2008 12:08:12 AM)
Fairfax County, Arlington, the cities, these locations put Obama over the top. The other locations had a different opinion. I'm an Obama supporter, but we need to have realistic opinion of Virginia.

President Elect Obama (relawson - 11/5/2008 12:00:26 AM)
According to CNN.

NBC calls Obama for President. (Bobbi - 11/5/2008 12:00:43 AM)

I voted for only one winning candidate... Clinton.  UNTIL TODAY...

presidential candidate, that is. (Andrea Chamblee - 11/5/2008 12:04:29 AM)

You didn't vote for Gore? (relawson - 11/5/2008 12:13:16 AM)
He won.  Kind of.

You didnt vote for Webb? (cdgoin - 11/5/2008 12:18:16 AM)
I hope you mean for president ;)

I voted for Senators Mikulski and Cardin (Andrea Chamblee - 11/5/2008 12:53:53 AM)
I am separated from your beautiful state by a river and not enough bridges.

Congratulations President Obama (norman swingvoter - 11/5/2008 12:14:18 AM)
This has been a roller coaster.  Great Great work everyone on helping to bring this about !!!!!!!!!

They are starting to call North Carolina (cdgoin - 11/5/2008 12:16:29 AM)
I knew they didn't want to call VA and NC until after they could call the West Coast and the election for Obama !!

BTW... Looks like the Tech Triangle is bringing Obama North Carolina too.. !!!

So what do you all think.. 378 ??

A larger margin than the 370 of 1992 or the 376 of 1996 !!!

Thank you Gov. Dean for the 50 state strategy you pushed for in 2006, and thank you President Obama for being such a great candidate !! I never thought I would see the country go Blue again.

Charles

Florida!!!! (relawson - 11/5/2008 12:33:41 AM)
Yes we can.  Obama wins the great state of Florida!!!

Only in America (IBelieveInHenryHowell - 11/5/2008 12:36:37 AM)

This will be the cherry on the top for me tonight!

Beyond thrilled (Barbara - 11/5/2008 1:26:09 AM)
Walking every weekend was most certainly worth this.  My precint--my county--my state--my country.

Blue Prince William; Blue Virginia.  What could be better than this?
