12:30 P.M.: Local Taxpayers Call on Goode to Come Clean
Southside residents demand investigation into misuse of public resourcesDANVILLE - Southside taxpayers will gather outside of Congressman Virgil Goode's Danville office on Monday at 12:30 p.m. to demand answers on why Goode's taxpayer-funded fax machine was used to promote a private film.
Taxpayers will call on Goode to make public the phone and fax records for his Danville office to detail the full extent that taxpayer resources were misused to promote Goode's pet projects.
Monday's event comes in response to this weekend's WSLS-10 report that Goode's Danville fax machine was used as the official contact for a film festival in Canada. Responding to the misuse of public funds, Goode's spokesman told WSLS-10 that "nothing in that office happened without Goode's permission.
The film was produced by North Theater's art director, Jerry Meadors, and included a special thanks to Rep. Goode in the credits.
Goode's ties to North Theater have been questioned in the past. In 2003, Goode secured a $150,000 earmark for the theater when the president of the theater's board was a supporter and donor to Goode. Goode's wife and longtime aide also sat on the board.
