I received the following tip from a long-time reader and friend of Raising Kaine. I thought I'd pass it along to provide some perspective on the Great Dick Cheney Birdshot Incident.
I wanted to tell you what a friend of mine told me today about the recent [shooting accident by Dick Cheney]. First, let me say this [friend of mine] lives to hunt, fish, drink, and chase wild women, and not necessarily in that order. He began by telling me that he knew what happened in Texas. He stated that Cheney and gang were drunk and shooting birds. After Whittington got shot and the ambulance carried him off to the hospital, a call was placed to the Sheriff. A deputy arrived and was instructed to return the next day. This, aside from many life experiences, was the big tip-off that things weren't quite right. He assumed, probably correctly, that they were playing for time to sober up and pass a BAC. One final aside to the story - my friend is a big Rep and he said that a close friend of his, with whom I am acquainted, went bird hunting in Texas years ago, got drunk, accidentally shot a hunting companion and was jailed. I didn't ask the charge, outcome, or what county, but I think it is safe to assume that it was less favorable than Cheney.
Blood alcohol content (BAC), huh? Hunting while intoxicated? Maybe we should send the Spotsylvania County vice squad down there to investigate. When they're not otherwise, er, "preoccupied," that is. Heh.
