Reagan's Chief of Staff Says Palin Not Qualified, Endorses Obama!

Classic lines by Ronald Reagan's Chief of Staff Ken Duberstein on Sarah Palin's lack of qualifications.

*"I think [McCain's choice of Sarah Palin] has very much undermined [the Republican ticket], the whole question of John McCain's judgment."

"What most Americans I think realize is that you don't offer someone a job, let alone the vice presidency, to a person after one job interview. Even at McDonalds you're interviewed three times before you're given a job."

*"...the whole question of whether or not she is fit...to be president in an emergency on Day 1, people have resoundingly said 'don't think so.'"

From the "Political Animal" blog in Washington Monthly:
it's tough to characterize Obama as a radical leftist when high-profile Republicans -- including top officials from Reagan's White House -- keep announcing their support for him. (original emphasis)

I couldn't agree more.

Who would possibly characterize him that way (Lowell - 10/31/2008 3:42:11 PM)
except for McCain, Palin, and others desperate to hold onto power?  Oh yeah, the disgraced - and convicted felon - Tom DeLay (demolished by Debbie Wasserman Schultz):

Appointments (jbvgoode - 10/31/2008 3:46:47 PM)
Every time Sen. Obama tells an interviewer or a crowd that he will appoint capable and qualified folks as cabinet members etc., he reminds listeners of the careful process that led to the selection of Sen. Biden and of Sen. McCain's careless selection of Gov. Palin.

John McCain's selection of Sarah Palin (Lowell - 10/31/2008 3:48:10 PM)
was beyond "careless," it was reckless, hotheaded, stupid, crazy, and wildly irresponsible. Did I miss anything? :)

Nearly incomprehensible (jbvgoode - 10/31/2008 5:11:04 PM)
would be another one.  But my point is that Sen. Obama and surrogates may want to ring the "careful/careless" bell often and loudly from now until election day.  If the issue resonates with former Reagan and Bush Sr. team members, then it should help with undecided independents.

"A Fit of Reason" (dsvabeachdems - 10/31/2008 6:24:39 PM)
Ken Duberstein's tongue in cheek characterization of Eagleburger's rationale demonstrates that there are still Republicans who can carry on a conversation worth having. Unfortunately, they don't have the reins and the party and the country suffers as a result.

Fortunately, it comes to pass at this moment in history.

It is somehow reassuring... (Kindler - 10/31/2008 8:44:35 PM)
...to know that there are a few Republicans with both a brain and a conscience left.

An interesting quote. (Tiderion - 10/31/2008 11:03:58 PM)
As posted here.
Barack Obama is indeed the least experienced, least tested candidate in modern presidential history. But at least if he wins, I can be sure that the mobs who cry "terrorist" at the sound of his name will be kept away-far away-from the White House.

Yep, that about sums it up for me too!
