Obama kicked off his general election campaign in Virginia (Bristol, Manassas) and will conclude his campaign here as well. Hey, do you think Barack Obama really REALLY wants to win Virginia or what? :)

Barack Obama to Hold Change We Need Rally in Manassas Park Area Monday

Final pre-election campaign rally slated for Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. - In his final campaign appearance before Tuesday's election, U.S. Sen. Barack Obama will hold a Change We Need rally in the Manassas Park area Monday night. It will be Obama's 11th trip to the commonwealth since the end of the primary campaign. He began the general election campaign season with Virginia stops in Bristol and Manassas.

At the rally, Obama will lay out his plans to jump start the economy, provide affordable health care to Virginians and tax relief for middle class families and contrast his vision for America with John McCain's plans for four more years of the same failed policies of the last eight.

More details about the event will be announced in the coming days.

at the Virginia Beach rally for Obama last night.  Wow, this kid could win American Idol right now, and he's only in middle school!

I'm pretty sure it's the Fairfax Campus (Bryan Scrafford - 10/31/2008 10:38:35 AM)

Manassas (VaNative - 10/31/2008 11:23:38 AM)
Everything I read online says Manassas.

My understanding is that (Lowell - 10/31/2008 11:28:04 AM)
exact details are being worked out. Stay tuned! :)

this kid brings tears to my eyes.  what an amazing job!!

He has a great voice and good control (thegools - 10/31/2008 10:40:08 AM)
but it was a little overdone with the tremello/vibratto for my taste.

But then again, he really knew how to work the crowd, so what do I know?

I wish I could sing half as well.

Agreed, but... (Lowell - 10/31/2008 10:42:59 AM)
...he's in middle school, give him a few years! :)

he sang @ our convention (totallynext - 10/31/2008 11:01:10 PM)
I think Dick Cranwell / Tim Kaine should pull some strings and get him to sign @ the Inauguration ceremony if we are so blessed.

I'm psyc'd for this rally (Pain - 10/31/2008 8:37:33 AM)

I am very close to Manassas Park and will make every effort to be there.  I was rather disappointed that I hadn't been able to attend any events, and when I heard about this I nearly fell out of my chair.

My wifes mother has unfortunately become very ill and my wife has to go be with her and won't be able to go with me to the rally. :(

finally and symbolically ending Civil War? (teacherken - 10/31/2008 9:19:52 AM)
That was my wife's immediate reaction when I told her.

I wonder - do you think Cory Stewart will show up?

Prince William County. (Pain - 10/31/2008 9:35:19 AM)

Prince William county is THE battleground in VA.  I've been working at an office here every weekend for the past 2 months, and all the paid staffers are saying that in their higher up meetings they are focused here.  This is it, right here.  If we win PWC in good numbers, we win VA.

Really? (tx2vadem - 10/31/2008 12:03:03 PM)
It seems to me as though the war between rural America and urban/suburban America rages on.  It is reflected in all these comments about the "real" America or the "real" Virginia.  And this ignorant belief, albeit by a minority, that Obama is a Muslim or a terrorist.  We'll see it when Obama wins Virginia.  He will win by carrying the states major urban centers.  The rest of the state will be red as usual.  Reading through interviews on the Washington Post, the sentiment from some people is that Northern Virginia is just the Southern most suburb of New York City.

With the exception of Virginia and North Carolina where an influx of new voters plus sizeable African-American turnout will determine the outcomes, the rest of the South is still solid.  Maybe Obama will heal a divided America when he becomes president, but I am highly skeptical.  I think what we may manage instead is isolating the South.

It seems a tall order to think one election and one man will bridge the cultural, essentially conservative, divide of the South.  It seems to me the spirit of John C Calhoun is still very much alive in the South.  And one election does not change that.

And really if he wins by 51% of the national vote and loses heavily in Southern states (save VA and North Carolina), then has the Civil War finally been laid to rest?  Maybe if he won Alabama or Mississippi, but Virginia?  I don't think so.

Well that's optimistic! :) (Lowell - 10/31/2008 12:05:29 PM)
But something tells me these culture wars will go on for a long time to come, especially since Republicans have a vested interest in stoking them.

Want to Help in PWC? (PWC Resident - 10/31/2008 11:02:19 AM)

Sign up to help anytime between in now and Election Day. We have volunteer shifts pretty much 24 hours a day now.

Please call (703) 673-3360 or email princewilliam@vavictory08.org and we can send any requests straight to your local organizer.

We have a number of offices and a great volunteer base here. But we need everyone's help to ensure that we win PWC for all of our candidates!
