Bernard Baker is reporting in the Danville Register and Bee that Linwood Duncan, Virgil Goode's Press Secretary, has resigned from the Congressman's staff.

Duncan, whose work for the North Theater Group had recently been questioned due to the 'thank-you' credit on the movie "Eden's Curve", resigned for health reasons, it was reported.

As this was being written, it was also discovered by another blogger that Linwood Duncan's name has also disappeared from the Board of Directors of the North Theater Group.

More on this as it develops.

UPDATE by Lowell: Democratic Central has more.

UPDATE #2 by Lowell: The Richmond Times-Dispatch, which has a strongly right-leaning editorial slant, declines to endorse Virgil Goode, saying:

...we declined to endorse him for re-election in 2006. Our revised position has not changed. To cite one example: It is one thing to target illegal immigration, but Goode has indulged in unstatesmanlike bashing. While Goode remains a strong favorite for re-election, Democrat Tom Perriello has run a spirited campaign -- and just might pull a surprise.

This is breaking fast (Mark - 10/28/2008 1:07:08 AM)
This news is a game changer. Linwood Duncan might have been asked to leave, or went on his own accord. The question is, does this have anything to do with the way Duncan was feeling due to the nature of the controversy with the film?

Maybe we will hear from Mr. Duncan soon, so we can understand this. Or not.

Mr Duncan certainly has a right to privacy and his health. I am not suggesting anything that would make Mr. Duncan uncomfortable.

There are several questions I would like to ask him, however.

;)

Also, This is a good article (Mark - 10/28/2008 1:12:11 AM)
A sample:

3.   Some gay and gay-connected sites have said that Linwood Duncan is gay -- "an open secret in DC," says BlogActive.  http://www.blogactive.com/2008...  ; see also http://pageoneq.com/news/2008/... ; While that leads folks in Charlottesville to say, "Not that there's anything wrong with that," such news makes folks in Danville really uncomfortable.

I highly recommend it.

I am pretty sure the race was already changed (snolan - 10/28/2008 8:31:57 AM)
Goode's unstatesmanlike conduct has been noticed, and his peer, Michele Bachmann has ripped aside the last shred of the veil that these people could hide behind.

I think her comments were the biggest election changer, and that upon reflection American voters will no longer tolerate unstable, bigoted, and embarrassing congress critters.

I am not sure this news about Duncan does anything but soften support for Goode even more than it was already softened.  It does not help Perriello; but may help indirectly by softening Goode's voter turnout a little.

article FYI (phoniponi - 10/28/2008 1:31:59 PM)
The Daily Progress ran the same article as the Danville paper which fails to mention the connection Duncan had to the film or theater drama.

I'm not advocating for digging into his personal life, but the fact that his associations with the film and theater were causing harm to Goode's campaign should have been reported.

Also worth noting, the theater just announced it is cutting all paid staff positions and restructoring.  Story is over at the R&B..
