...not more political tactics of intimidation and fear mongering.
When filming Virgil Goode's press conference at the Old Henry County Court House in Martinsville VA, Goode's campaign director Tucker Watkins demanded for the cameraman to "state themselves" and then stood in front of the camera to prevent filming Goode at a public event - an event that was publicized in the local paper.
In protest, a Goode supporter actually stood up for the cameraman and explained several times to Watkins, "This is America!" Watkins tells the Goode supporter that the man with the camera is "with Perriello" to which the Goode supporter responds by saying "who cares, this is America."
Ironically, Goode is in the background telling the crowd to send Barack Obama back to Chicago and Tom Perriello "back to New York."
Maybe Goode and his cronies need reminding that in America you can't prohibit citizens from participating in the democratic process. Especially on the grounds of the Old Henry County Court House.

Exactly, this is America... (Bryan Scrafford - 10/27/2008 10:59:36 AM)
We are allowed disagree with our elected officials on issues and to hold them accountable through the electoral process. That is part of what makes our country so great. The cameraman wasn't doing any wrong and it even appears as though he was standing in the back of the crowd, which means he probably wasn't even accidentally blocking anyone's view. If Tucker didn't want his candidate on film, then they shouldn't have publicized the event. I'm glad to see that people on both sides of the aisle are able to recognize that fact.
The Republicans are afraid (Teddy - 10/27/2008 12:21:30 PM)
to have any unscripted, uncensored live-time evidence of how awful the Republican brand has become... in other words, knowledge is a dangerous thing. Even their dumbest old-line, brainwashed operatives instinctively understand that those pesky free-lance, private, uncontrolled folks with their pesky cell phones and pesky videocameras are going to catch some revealing thing and cleverly publicize it on that pesky YouTube. Therefore, the answer is to prevent any recording, any private peek of any Republican candidate or function, and stop the doggone propaganda at its source. I really don't think it's a conspiracy, but it just looks like it.
At least you know this is America. Maybe you should consider switching your vote over. Don't vote for the guy who seems not to understand what you understand so well.
