McCain Believes Palin More "Qualified" for VP than Cheney, Lieberman ,etc.

Every day, I keep thinking there's no way the McCain campaign can get any stupider, and then it defies expectations and DOES get stupider.  Take today, for instance - McCain commenting on how Palin's more qualified than recent running mates:

"I think she's most qualified of any that has run recently for vice president, tell you the truth," McCain said, citing her experience as a small-town mayor and Alaska governor. He added: "Bill Clinton was pretty well derided when he came out of a small state to run for president of the United States," and he pronounced himself "amazed" at the criticism.

My god, where do we even begin? OK, how about with Dick Cheney?  As much as I think the guy is evil incarnate, to even mention Sarah Palin's qualifications in the same breath as Cheney's is nothing short of insane.  Here's a quick list of what Cheney's resume looked like when he picked himself Bush picked him to be VP in 2000: White House Chief of Staff under Gerald Ford, U.S. Representative from Wyoming from 1978 until he was selected as U.S. Defense Secretary under George HW Bush, chairman and chief executive of Halliburton from 1995 to 2000.  Let's see, Sarah Palin was mayor of a town with a population under 10,000.  She's been governor of Alaska for under 2 years, during which time she's done...well, a lot of traveling with her family on "official business," billing it all to the taxpayers of Alaska.  So yeah, she's just as qualified as Dick Cheney...if you're a crazy, hotheaded, erratic old coot with an eye for attractive ladies like John McCain. Ugh.

What about Bill Clinton's choice of running mate, Al Gore?  When he was selected, he had already graduated from Harvard, served in Vietnam, worked as a journalist, served in Congress for 17 years, wrote the book "Earth in the Balance," and run for president (in 1988). Yeah...Palin's at LEAST as "qualified" as that - if you're nuts, that is!

What about John McCain's pal Joe Lieberman?  When Al Gore picked him to be his running mate in 2000, Lieberman had been a U.S. Senator since 1988, chairing the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, among other things. True, Lieberman's bio is not as impressive as Al Gore's and Dick Cheney's, but still, Joe Lieberman was a GAZILLION times more "qualified" to be VP than Sarah Palin.  Speaking of Lieberman, why didn't McCain pick his close friend for the job?  Short answer: Rush Limbaugh (and the "Christian right") would have gone nuts, and John McCain is terrified of Rush Limbaugh and the "Christian right."  No "profiles in courage" there.

Heck, Sarah Palin's not even as qualified as Dan Quayle was when George HW Bush picked him to be his running mate in 1988. At the time, Quayle - aside from not being able to spell "potato" and thinking that people speak "Latin" in Latin America - had served in numerous positions in the Indiana state government, had been elected (and re-elected) to the U.S. House and to the Senate. True, Quayle was no shining star of intellect of achievement, but compared to Sarah Palin, he was a combination of Einstein and FDR.

So, we're left with two possibilities here: either John McCain REALLY believes Sarah Palin's more "qualified" to be VP than Dick Cheney, Al Gore, Joe Lieberman or even Dan Quayle, in which case he's crazy. Or, he's simply saying that he believes she's more qualified even though he knows it's laughable, in which case he's a liar. Take your choice, either one sucks. John McCain: the man who will say or do anything to be president before he dies. Sad.

Another one (Lowell - 10/23/2008 7:23:21 AM)
Lloyd Bentsen was infinitely more qualified than Sarah Palin when he was selected by Michael Dukakis as his running mate in 1988.  Sarah Palin?  She's no Lloyd Bentsen! :)

Jack Kemp (Dave N. - 10/23/2008 8:32:01 AM)
If I were Jack Kemp, I think I'd be completely pissed at McCain for saying that. Kemp was one of the golden boys of the GOP when Dole picked him in '96...and he's probably forgotten more about economics and domestic policy than Palin ever knew.

But I guess because McCain was passed over in '96 as Dole's running mate in favor of Kemp, he's conveniently forgotten him.

McCains judgement: poor choice (hereinva - 10/23/2008 9:03:46 AM)
And needs to twist his sentence a bit:

He does not say: She is the most qualified...McCain just says she's qualified.

According to the U.S. Constitution here are the qualifications for V.P.:

a) be a natural born U.S. citizen
b) not be younger than 35
c) have lived in the U.S. for at least 14 years

Interesting to note if Todd Palin got his wish, Sarah would not have qualified under item c) ..(reference to the Alaskan Independence Party that wants to secede from Alaska because they do not like America..but thats another blog entry)

So technically Super Shopper Sarah qualifies as V.P. but so do millions of other Americans. She lacks the substance and abilities to serve as our next president.

It's just like when McCain . . . (JPTERP - 10/23/2008 10:25:28 AM)
said Palin was the foremost "energy expert" in America, or that the "fundamentals of the economy are strong".  He's prone to exaggeration and doubling down when the facts are not on his side.  It's the mentality of a gambling addict, not a president.

education? (joeboo22 - 10/23/2008 5:08:40 PM)
Whats her view on education? Besides the fact that she went to 4 schools that 90% of the public hasn't heard of do her kids go to school?

her oldest son quit school, her oldest daughter missed all of last year and seems to just follow her mom along this year and is pregnant, her bf dropped out of school and it doesn't sound like she will be going to college.

Her 2 other daughters seem to follow mom along also. I know Chelsi followed her dad around but she went to Stanford.
