We'd all love to see Saxby Chambliss out of the Senate:
For six years, Democrats here and in Washington have carried a grudge against Saxby Chambliss, the Republican incumbent, who beat Max Cleland in 2002 - in part with a TV ad that questioned the commitment of Cleland, a triple amputee and Vietnam vet, to national security. Chambliss, who is roughly the same age, received a deferment from military service.[...]
"[Martin] will not have to go to committee meetings to know what it's like to serve in the military," Webb said.
It's great to see our hometown hero using his new found heft for the good of the caucus.
Democrats are closing in on a 60-seat, filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. Current polling points to a 1-in-3 chance. Should Obama take the White House, a majority well north of 50 would make a governing majority. So, every additional seat counts and the dynamics of the Chambliss/Martin race have tightened from a blowout to a toss-up.
The pollster average of polls currently shows 45.6% Chambliss, 45.0% Martin. Could Webb's help make the difference? If so, Webb could win himself a new friend in the Senate from Georgia.
Hypocrites like Chambliss need to be confronted... called out. Jim Webb is EXACTLY the guy to do it and I hope he stays on the circuit for the next 12 days. I hope Obama goes to the southern heart land just to fire up those troops in reserve who could make all the difference for these Democratic candidates on the cusp.
Think Tennessee as well ... Mitch McConnell ... toast.
You go, Jim Webb; you're the man!!
