Tim Kaine: Next They'll Accuse Obama of Wanting to Make the NL Go to the Designated Hitter!

Great job by Tim Kaine on MSNBC's "Race for the White House" with David Gregory. Here's Governor Kaine:
[Obama] basically said what most Americans believe - we want the middle class to do well. Both of these candidates have tax proposals. Senator McCain focuses tax relief on the wealthiest individuals and the biggest corporations. That's what his choice is. Senator Obama says we need to give tax relief to the middle class and to small businesses. Small businesses like "Joe the Plumber" get a tax credit...pay no capital gains at all if you're a smaller or startup business...that's what Americans want...we want to help the middle class succeed and we want to help small businesses succeed. That's what we need to do to get the economy growing again.
[David Gregory plays comment by McCain that Obama's middle class tax relief plan is "just another government giveaway..."]
They're getting desperate - they're throwing around a lot of kooky claims. I mean, tomorrow it will probably be that Senator Obama wants to make the National League go to the designated hitter or something. I mean, who knows what they'll come up with.
Just for the record, I think there are good sides and bad sides to the designated hitter, and pretty much think the current arrangement - DH in the American League, pitchers bat in the National League - is just fine. To continue the baseball analogy, I also believe that, after this campaign, John McCain should be "designated" for reassignment (or for retirement) or put on waivers or something. :)
P.S. And Palin should be sent back to the rookie leagues...

I vote to put him on the "Disabled" list. Truely, McCain is jousting with windmills now, and becoming more desperate with each passing day!
A vote is a vote (jbvgoode - 10/21/2008 10:21:21 AM)
Gov. Kaine: "Whatever region, a vote is a vote." Obviously true and so much better than answering (as David Gregory seemed to be hoping he would) that it is important that we do well in X, Y or Z region. "Real Virginia" votes are available in every county and city in the Commonwealth.
I would love to see (Red Sox - 10/21/2008 11:40:07 AM)
the NL adopt the DH. Watching pitchers bat is tedious.
Nice job (bamboo - 10/21/2008 8:04:24 PM)
Tim did a good job here, staying positive and not getting off message. But he could have punctured the silliness of some of the verbiage that Gregory was throwing his way and contrasted more with the hollowness of McCain's [policies. Also reference to "socialism" from the Florida newspaper's endorsement of McCain is an obvious scare tactic that needs to be deconstructed. There's nothing remotely socialist about Obama's proposals for tax relief for the middle class, unless one considers that anything BUT tax relief for the rich and for corporations equates to socialism.
