How far we've come...

Thinking back to the year 2000 (my first year in politics), it's amazing now to think of how far we as a state have come.  Think about that election for a moment.  Al Gore had handily gone down to defeat here in the commonwealth.  Chuck Robb (while not the greatest Democratic representative, still 100 times better than George Allen) went down in flames, and Allen joined next to, and here in the 11th District, Tom Davis went on to crush a little known candidate named Michael Corrigan in by an over 60% margin.  Democrats had no control over the Senate and the House in the statehouse, and Jim Gilmore ruled over the Governor's Mansion with his popular repeal of the Car Tax.  Now look where we are today.
President Elected in 2000 - George W. Bush
President Elected in 2008 - (soon-to-be) Democrat Barack Obama

Governor in 2000 - Jim Gilmore
Governor in 2008 - Democrat Tim Kaine

Senator elected in 2000 - George Allen
Senator elected in 2008 - Democrat Mark Warner

Sitting Senator in 2000 - John Warner
Sitting Senator in 2008 - Democrat Jim Webb

Control of State Senate (2000) - Republican
Control of State Senate (2008) - Democrat

Elected 11th District Congressman (2000) - Tom Davis
Elected 11th District Congressman (2008) - Democrat Gerry Connelly

I may have been blue after 2000.  But, if Virginia is going to be blue in 2008, I think I won't be blue for a good while.  =o)
