...also cross-listed on DK...
Virgil Goode and Jerry Meadors Two days ago there were two separate reports on Virgil Goode's support of the film.  The Danville Register & Bee's article has already generated 6 pages of comments on the issue and Mike Stark's blog and accompanying video have illuminated other red flags that ask for more questions.  Yesterday I offered up a few details that shed light on the relationship Virgil Goode had with Jerry Meadors, Stick Film Productions/Water Bearer Films, and the North Theater: http://www.raisingkaine.com/sh...

And this morning the Danville R&B's Editorial Board published Thrown for a Curve."

But Goode did help secure $150,000 for the North Theatre project, and the North Theatre was renovated under the direction of the same man who made "Eden's Curve" - Jerry Meadors. When Goode was asked during the 2004 campaign about getting a federal grant for the North Theatre (at a Danville Register & Bee editorial board meeting), he said the theater's grant was for economic development.

On the issue of Goode's support for the $150,000 grant for the North Theatre, we warned Goode of a possible conflict of interest on the part of his press secretary, Linwood Duncan, even before we knew the content of "Eden's Curve."

In my research of the relationships between Virgil Goode, Eden's Curve, Jerry Meadors, Lucy Goode and Linwood Duncan to the North Theater - it would appear that any conflict of interest may have been covered up.

Financial records show:
1. Goode had secured the earmark for the North Theater in 2003
2. Both Lucy Goode and Linwood Duncan were on the board at this time
3. Both of their names were omitted from the organizations Form 990s for two consecutive years.
4. Roy Gignac was and still is a major funder of Goode and may have deliberately omitted their names to protect the special interests of all involved.

Details and images of North Theatre Form 990s after the flip.
As was reported in 2003, the earmark from Goode came at a time when Lucy and Linwood were board members.  The North Theater, oddly, has a website that has Lucy Goode featured: http://www.edanvilleonline.com... and then one that does not: http://www.edanvilleonline.com... . (I'm willing to accept that this was a technical problem and was not totally corrected when board membership changed.)

What is more startling is that when you review the Form 990s that were submitted by the North Theater's Board of Directors and Jerry Meadors for the years of Virgil Goode's earmark, both Lucy Goode and Linwood Duncan's names were excluded from the Board of Directors list.  The year following also excludes Lucy and Linwood's names.  Linwood does not appear until the 2006 form 990.  It begs the question that if both Lucy and Linwood were on the Board - why were their names excluded from this legal requirement of a non-profit's financial records, especially at the precise time when Lucy Goode's husband and Linwood Duncan's boss secured a $150,000 earmark.

As President of the Board of Directors, Roy Gignac also prepared the North Theater's first set of 990s that were submitted.  He too was responsible for providing accurate records of board members - these documents are to be completed accurately and thoroughly as to publicly demonstrate transparency and to prevent any conflict of interest that may be apparent.

But Roy Gignac had a vested interest in keeping these obvious conflicts of interest hidden.  Since 1998, Roy has made over $10,000 political contributions to Virgil Goode.

The bottom line in these financial records of the North Theater is:
1. Goode had secured the earmark for the North Theater in 2003
2. Both Lucy Goode and Linwood Duncan were on the board at this time
3. Both of their names were omitted from the organizations Form 990s for two concecutive years.
4. Roy Gignac was and still is a major funder of Goode and may have deliberately omitted their names to protect the special interests of all involved.

The Danville R&B put the North Theatre's birth this way:

Cynics will point out the North Theatre wasn't renovated and reopened because the community asked for that to happen. In fact, it happened because a relatively small group wanted it to happen.

It seems that this song is having an awfully familiar ring to it?

Lucy overboard (goodebye08 - 10/18/2008 7:10:57 PM)
Then-Register & Bee reporter Darrin Sweeney reported on Lucy's connection to the earmark and the North Theater years ago...  but then the story was "lost" in the archiving process.  Thank you for finally pointing out that she used to sit on that board.  Truly ridiculous that no one has pointed out that specific connection in their news stories about this whole thing...
