McCain--Unfit to Lead

Whatever John McCain's past, today, right now, he is unfit to lead.  And nothing illustrates that fact more than the irascible, eye-darting, fuming antics he demonstrated last night and at previous debates.  His contempt for our candidate is palpable.  And they undercut completely any claim by John McCain that he will and can work across the aisle.

But more than that, John McCain thinks this election is all about him.  In his grandstanding theatrics a couple of weeks ago, he risked unsettling or even blocking any effort to resolve the financial crisis.  He lied both about his own role in any resolution.  And then lied about Barack Obama's.  McCain claimed Obama sat on the sidelines, when he was engaged and participating all along.

Over and over he puts himself, not the country first.  And when his crowds or Palin's have made shouted extreme statements, only 9once did John MNCain correct the statement.  And he never said threats to our candidate must stop.  Not once.

Others have written that they hold John McCain and Sarah Palin accountable.  I do as well.  If they cannot set the appropriate tone for their campaing, they should just step aside.  If they cannot act in a humane way, they should and must step aside.

But worse, John McCain thinks it's all about him.  Carling nothing about the safety of a living human being, he fumes about his misinterpretation of the John Lewis remark.

And, then, comes Johnny McShame to say this:

"Let me just say categorically I'm proud of the people that come to our rallies," McCain said. "I am not going to stand for anybody saying that the people who come to our rallies are anything other than patriotic citizens."
